SNCacher, this looks fun. I searched but could not find this listed as a geocaching.com event. Correct?
How are the snow conditions as of today?

Good idea, Randy. For my part, I’d like to respond after the new board has its first meeting, which is coming up in a couple of weeks.

If they’re into hiking, start ’em hard and continue hard. And by “hard” it sounds like you mean the hike, not necessarily the find, correct? Too hard a find may lead to frustration. But too hard a hike will not discourage most hikers. At least they won’t admit it.
If you post that you may use the canoe for geocaching, it can be posted here, at least IMHO. It’s not like this forum is inundated with too many postings.
I thought it might be fun to bump this topic, since this month is the 3-year anniversary of the WGA. Woo hoo! (sound of noise-makers, firecrackers, champagne corks popping)

Way to go, Dumpa! I didn’t read about this ahead of time (been a little busy lately) so thanks for calling this to our attention. Great job.
That’s why I’m selling it.

That can be a problem, but if you cut the plastic so you have extra on all sides, it’s easier to pull up one side when it slide out of place. I’m a big believer in this system. The problem with placing a tarp or plastic under your tent is that even if it does not stick out beyond the sides, rain and dew may run down the sides of the tent and may flow under, getting between the tent floor and the tarp.
For this and other sage camping advice, I recommend these books by Cliff Jacobson: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0762704276/qid=1107620950/sr=1-7/ref=sr_1_7/104-9932285-5091156?v=glance&s=books

This puts a moisture barrier between your sleeping bag and whatever wetness might ooze in.
Regarding rainproofing, a quality tent with a good rain fly should shed the rain without the need to apply rainproofing. I’ve been using the same tent (Eureka Timberline) for nearly 20 years and it doesn’t leak.

If you read the Leave No Trace article, you’ll see that’s not what the LNT people say at all.
If you don’t like snow you’re living in the wrong state. BTW, I was snowblowing my driveway at 6:30 this morning for 1.5 hours so the movers could get in. I still like snow.

I’m guessing you’re referring to Ski Land Sporting Goods in Grafton. Very muchy a mom & pop place.

Excellent post, Ron. I agree with you that forming those one-on-one relationships is very important. Grass roots efforts such as yours are one important aspect of our complete “campaign” to earn the acceptance and cooperation of park managers and their bosses. While individual geocachers can work with managers from the bottom up, the WGA board will continue to work on a state level from the top down. We should all have the same goal — to ensure a long-term and fun future for geocaching.
