The reasons for making this a Saturday event have already been stated above.
There are currently 2111 caches in Wisconsin that can be hunted right now. No waiting necessary.
And I don’t think anyone previously called anyone else petty.
Jeff, thanks for raising your questions and concerns. It’s good for us to hear what’s on everyone’s mind so we have this open forum to respond. We haven’t officially voted on this as the WGA board, but we have discussed it in our WGA Board forum.

I disagree with this statement. If someone goes out at 3 a.m. before the picnic event is offically underway and uses the files that we provided to hunt for the temp caches, we as an organization and more particularly as the Board may be liable if they injure themselves. I can’t imagine that it would matter to a judge or jury that we deleted their logs. It’s not that we don’t trust WGA members. We do. However, our events are open to all — not just WGA members. That means a first-time novice geocacher from Walla Walla could participate. We simply have to make sure that everyone signs the liability waiver. It may not be a bulletproof safeguard for the WGA, but it’s something. Board members volunteer their time and resources for the good of Wisconsin geocachers. WGA members should allow us to take minor steps such as requiring participants to sign the waiver to protect us and the WGA from potentially serious financial consequences.
Besides that, The WGA picnic is a group event designed to draw geocachers together. When you participate in an event you expect to rub shoulders with other people. That’s a big part of the fun for all. Just look at the comments that people post: “We enjoyed meeting so many geocachers and putting faces to the names.”
We will do everything we can to make the sign-in and downloading process as efficient as possible.

I agree with the sentiments of each of the above posts. The only clarification I’d like to make is that for some who like to geocache, it truly is NOT about the numbers. If you say that each geocacher can enjoy the sport in his or her own way, then it’s not fair to say that someone is being hypocritical when they say they’re not into the numbers. When I find a geocache, I post it as a “find” instead of posting a note because that’s what you’re supposed to do. The system is set up so you can then easily eliminate those found caches from your pocket queries. The “find” also serves as feedback to the cache owner to let him/her know that the geocache is still there and everything is A-OK. I’ve said it before and I have a right to express it again without being called a hypocrite — To me, it’s not about the numbers. To quote Robert Service from his poem “The Spell of the Yukon”,
“It’s the great, big, broad land way up yonder,
It’s the forests where silence has lease;
It’s the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It’s the stillness that fills me with peace.”That’s why I geocache.

The mystery has been solved. Team Badger volunteered to replace the container on their recent hunt of this cache. Evidently they left my original container there too but hid it a few feet away. I hope to get there tomorrow to get everything squared away.

I’m feeling dense. No idea what you’re talking about.
Congratulations to you both! I peeked at your cache logs linked to your profile. I hope you had time for honeymoon activities other than geocaching.

It should also be noted that when a cache is first approved, the map on ther cache page will be a rudimentary one. Within a day or two, there will likely be a better looking map in place.
Really? This is news to me.

Another thought — You can add your own map to the cache page if you have a better one. Create it with a drawing program or scan a printed map and add special lines and marks with a drawing program. Then upload it as a photo to the page. You might even want to imbed it with the long description text so it automatically appears on the page without the need to click on a link.
Knowing that Team Kilroy (former Wisconsite and now Iowan) is involved, I’m sure this will be a very nice event. Add to that the fact that it is being planned by Iowans and you can’t go wrong.

I’m also an Iowan originally. Grew up in NW Iowa around Sheldon, Cherokee, and Okoboji. College in Ames. Lived in Spencer, Eagle Grove, and Cedar Rapids before moving to Wisconsin in 1987. No Cubs hat for me. I’m now a true blue Brewers fan.

Another way to narrow your search is to use the maps here: http://www.brillig.com/geocaching/wisconsin.shtml
Pick the area of the state where you will be and click on either a specific dot (geocache) or a square to zoom in further. -
