Just wanted to bump this topic in hopes of drawing more attention to the event because “rain or shine”, “yes, I’ll be there no matter what” volunteers are needed to make this a success. For those who think we should do more to promote geocaching and the WGA, the WGA tent at the Gathering Waters Festival in Milwaukee this Saturday has the potential to introduce more people to geocaching than any other event we have ever held. Please consider going to the event page and volunteering to help introduce visitors to our geocaching activity.

Be careful. Two-person kayaks are also known as divorce boats.
(Not that I would know anything about that.)

Personally I don’t get excited by them for the reasons you listed. When someone gives me a coin, I do enjoy giving it to others who seem to like them or placing it in one of my geocaches just because it may cause some excitement about visiting my cache.

Even though I wasn’t there, I want to add my thanks to all the organizers who planned and carried out the 2009 camping event and kept the proud tradition of WGA events going strong. Looks like you had a great time. This was the first “major” WGA event that I did not attend so now only JeremyV can claim that he has been to all of them. 😀 BTW, I had a good excuse for not being there. I was invited to attend the first-ever “Cherokee’s Welcome Spring” geocaching event in my home town in Iowa (GC1KXWH), which was also well-attended and well-organized. It included a 10-mile canoe/kayak cache-hunting paddle down a river on Sunday morning. Very fun!

Those guys were pretty funny. The video would be better without the swearing, IMHO.

The event cache is now published: GC1QPWG

Bumping this to the top to, hopefully, get some responses. Watch for the event cache to be posted soon.
BTW, I’ve decided not to bring a large 8 x 20 tent because if it’s raining that day, not many visitors will be there anyway. Instead I’ll have an 8×8 tent, which will be less cumbersome to set up and won’t require 3 volunteers to help. But we’ll still need experienced geocachers to help explain geocaching to newbies between the 101 classes.

hi, DON. Are you the same DON that posts on Russ’ kayaking web site? If so, we have paddled together a couple of times, most recently last fall on the Wisconsin River starting at the Dells.

Don’t forget about the Wisconsin geocache permit fee of $25 ($45 for multicaches, $125 for puzzles and micros), payable to the WGA. A gratuity to your reviewer is also appreciated if you appreciate his or her service.

I should have updated sooner. I sold this several weeks ago.

in reply to: 2009 Geo-Campout T-Shirt Logo Ideas Sought #1904509

Uh oh. Here we go again. Why not cut straight to the finish line and ask the Washington State Geocaching Association if we can use one of their T-shirt designs? 😀

We’re still in need of more volunteers. Please let me know.

in reply to: "Cacher" License plate #1900062

I saw a car yesterday in Mequon with a plate that read either “IFINDIT” or “IFINDEM”, I forget which. I noticed he had a geocaching.com sticker on his window. Anyone know who that is?

in reply to: Lakeshore State Park event June 13 #1903271

I’m looking for volunteers who are willing to help represent the WGA at the Gathering Waters Festival, June 13, 2009, at Lakeshore State Park in Milwaukee, which is the island near the Summerfest grounds. We’re going to have a WGA tent and Dave of Team DeeJay will be leading a Geocaching 101 seminar twice during the day at noon and again at 3 p.m.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and I could use six to eight WGA volunteers who can help staff the tent and explain geocaching to walk-up visitors that day. You could also help guide visitors on a demonstration geocache hunt for some of the caches that will be hidden in the park for this event. This will be submitted as an event cache soon on geocaching.com.

I could also use three volunteers to help set up the tent in the morning around 8:30 a.m. and/or help take it down at the end of the day. (If there is no rain in the forecast that day, we’ll set up an 8×8 tent for shade. If rain is possible, we’ll set up a 10×20 tent.)

Please reply back here or send me a PM to let me know if you can help all or part of the day.
    Thanks!

Will these topo maps work on a Garmin 60CSx?
