Bec, if you would like to write an article, please submit your topic either here or send me an email and we’ll give you feedback. The only reason we want to know the topic ahead of time is to confirm it’s something we will publish before someone makes the effort to write it. Thanks for the offer!

Just a reminder to those who offered to help by providing an article for the Article of the Month. Please keep your thinking caps on and your computers busy. We’re looking forward to your articles.

EnergySaver, thanks for the explanation. I’m not ticked at all. I’m glad you’re not either.

One thing that I noticed about other TB hotels is that many of them are located along well-traveled highways where they’re likely to see lots of geocaching visitors who can move the TBs along. Since yours is at the end of a multi-part hunt in a fairly secluded nature park that doesn’t see much traffic, I thought I would help the TB owners out by moving the TBs along. But again, I’m sorry I didn’t read your instructions about trading TBs.

I may be one of the scoundrels who took travel bugs from your cache without putting any in their place. By the time I got to the final cache in the Oz series, I figured I would rescue two travel bugs that were in there because not many people would want to venture into that area to get them out. I did not have the cache page printed out and did not read the instructions on my PDA for this cache. It was simply a “hit it and get out” cache visit. So, if I broke a rule, I’m sorry. I thought I was doing the bug owners a favor by moving them along.

I’m really beginning to dislike travel bugs. Seems like you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t move them along.

I don’t mind using the forums to discuss issues that are important to members. A problem with individual letters to board members is that we don’t know how many others agree with the letter writer or if other board members received the letter and what their reaction is.

Looks like Ooteks talents are being wasted, unless he/she already is a professional comedy writer. Too funny!

I had no idea some people were doing this. It seems bizarre that anyone would want to. What’s the point? I guess I don’t understand the fascination over travel bugs. I brought 5 TBs to the breakfast, including 3 Jeeps, and left them on the exchange table, thinking this would be a good chance for people to move them along because I didn’t know when I would be able to do so. I didn’t worry about being irresponsible for them any more than I would if I were to leave them in a Tupperware box somewhere in the woods.

Nice map, Jeff. Now your next assignment is to plot the geographic center of the WGA population. After you do so we will hold all future events at that exact spot so no one can complain that we’re neglecting any segment of the geocaching population when we choose locations for our events.

I think it sounds like a neat idea. The only problem is that nasty issue of liability. If you provide a canoe and blanket permission to use it without supervision, you may be liable if someone uses it who is it not experienced or trained to do so, especially a minor. The safer route would be BYO boat.

Speaking of derailed, that reminds me of a geocaching experience…. http://forums.groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=31496&hl=

Sorry, Dave, I couldn’t resist further derailment.

I watched Howdy Doody as well, but I don’t want to admit that publicly.

Oops, I guess I just did. They must have been reruns. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Since no one responded, I’ll give the answer. Captain Kangaroo! Am I the only one here who remembers that great show?

BTW, I hope to be able to stop by for part of the event on Saturday. My son has a baseball tourney in Franklin, so I may be able to run down between games.

All the ideas discussed here so far sound like very good topics. The skin cancer one might be the most timely as we head into summer, but I encourage each of you to work on your respective ideas. We definitely can use them all.

Thanks for all you are doing to promote responsible (and fun) geocaching, and working with parks managers. We appreciate your efforts!

I haven’t asked the other board members about your question, but my feeling is we want “general” articles that educate about geocaching or issues related to geocaching. Editorials that present a personal opinion are more appropriately published in the forums. For example, if you want to write some half-baked opinion about what is or is not a verb, that would be a personal opinion you should post in the forums. If you want to write a non-controversial, informative article about GPSRs, a fellow geocacher, hunting tips, unusual containers, historic geocaches, unusual experiences you and other geocachers have had, issues with land managers, a “how-to” article such as how to hide a micro or how to hold an event cache… (and the list goes on) — these would all make fine topics for an Article of the Month.
