He visited my Devil’s Lake Revisited geocache recently and we exchanged a couple of emails about his hunt, so I know he’s still in the game.

in reply to: Which is Your Favorite Virtual Cache? #1746977

I think it’s too bad that geocaching.com guidelines make it very hard to get a new virtual geocaches approved. As the admin approver for Iowa, I have to abide by their guidelines when reviewing new virtuals, but I wish the rules allowed for placing virtuals while on vacation if there are no other traditional or virtuals around.

Anyway, I checked our list to remind myself of some of the very nice virtuals we’ve done. My favorites all involve hikes (of course):

    In Wisconsin,Castle View by GrouseTales

and Water’s Edge by Team Cachebarr

In Iowa, Holly Shrine by Danny Bishop

In Colorado, Deer Mountain by Myotis

    In Italy,
    Pompeii by Ron Streeter

At the risk of beating a deceased horse…
I don’t argue with the use of “geocache” as a verb. I guess my feeling is that shortening it to “caching” just seems so overly cutesy that it loses its descriptive accuracy.

I stand corrected. Cache can be used as a verb. However, as Jeff previously pointed outif you want to be completely correct, it refers to the act of storing or hiding, not to finding. So if you say you’re going to cache or going caching, it implies you’re going to hide or store a cache, not find one.

Don’t get me started on the French!

We hear your requests to know the date of the picnic. Board members are diligently working on the issue — trying to line up both a locaction and a date that will work for said location. Thanks for your patience, and stay tuned.

I would love to go because Ames is one of my old stomping grounds (ISU). However, that’s the weekend of my son’s high school graduation so we won’t be able to make it.

We will be attending our annual family reunion on West Lake Okoboji in the NW corner of Iowa. Also plan to seek out a couple of geocaches in the area, including two new webcam caches: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=135893 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=135881

We can all sign the shirt, but be advised this may take quite some time. We don’t have an in-person board meeting scheduled right now. Most of our collaboration is done via the Internet.

Jeff, you have GOT to stop sniffing those gasoline fumes when you fill up the mower.

Wow, I don’t remember that. I am from the “Abracadabra, please and thank you” generation. Anyone remember that? (Sorry for going off-topic here, Dave)

I failed to make this one of the original rules, but the bidders have done a good job in placing their bids in $1 increments, so let’s continue with that as a rule for this auction. Thanks for the bids so far!
