I dug up this topic from Feb. and thought it might be good to bump it up to the top. Brians stated some useful information about the campout.

And just to be clear, there will be a pancake breakfast Sunday morning. See this forum topic to sign up: http://wi-geocaching.com/forums/Forum16/HTML/000021.html

Thanks for the upload. Overall, the article presents a fair look at geocaching. I don’t remember ever hunting a cache in the Northern Kettle Moraine with Sam and Jeremy. Looks like Iowa to me.

    Welcome to geocaching!

    And it’s “piqued”

    Sorry. I can’t help it. I’m a writer.

in reply to: Amplified Antennas #1746746

My Garmin eMap doesn’t have the greatest internal antenna, so a couple of years ago I bought an external antenna that plugs in to a jack on the back of the unit. It works great. If I get into a treecovered area with poor reception, I just reach into my trusty backpack, pull out the external antenna, plug it in and I’m usually back in business. I don’t use it all the time because it drains the GPS batteries faster. I think I paid about $25 for it online somewhere. If you want to know the source I could search my records. It doesn’t have a brand name on it, but it has a model number: GPA-02A.

Or we could make our own chow line canopy like this one.

    in reply to: T-Shirts? #1754552

Our T-shirt order has been placed. We received orders for 69 shirts, which is about 20 more than last year. A big “thank you” from the WGA to all who ordered. We also ordered a few extra shirts in various sizes so if you didn’t get your order placed, bring some extra $ along to the campout. We’ll sell the extras on a first-come, first-served basis.

Thanks for the offer. If an angry mob rushes the stage maybe you can fend them off while I make for the exit.
Seriously, if I think of something as the event draws nearer I’ll let you know.

in reply to: Go Geocaching & win a Jeep! #1737162

From what Jeremy Irish posted in the general forum (see below), and from what I read in the admin forum, it looks like the WGA and other regional associations will each receive an allotment of these to place in geocaches.

    From Jeremy I:

There are two programs. The first is the sweepstakes for 3 Jeeps that will be given out this year. It’s a standard drawing.
The second program is the 4,000 die-cast yellow jeep wranglers with their own custom travel bug attached. There will be a monthly contest starting June 1st through December 25th where a prize will be given for the best photo, and another award for the best essay relating to these found travel bugs. Jeep were really psyched about promoting the activity and they wanted to create a unique concept that would allow the largest number of geocachers to participate. We discouraged the placement of caches due to the limited accessibility to find them (and the “Mad Mad World” phenomenon we’ve seen in the past).

We’ll be distributing many of the bugs through local organizations, and another 1,000 will be available on the web site for people to request and have shipped to them for free. When we start taking requests, we’ll have a section on the http://jeep.geocaching.com web site.

LOL! In my mind I’ve been pronouncing it “arch angel”, picturing you with wings and a halo.

Steve, I found Ruth’s number and called her home this morning. We’re all set.

There are a couple of web pages you can refer to, but they may not have the complete “database” of information you’re looking for. For Wisconsin, the WGA site has this page that lists the known restrictions in our state: http://wi-geocaching.com/hide.html
For a worldwide collection of local and regional rules, you can check out this site: http://www.geocachingpolicy.com/

We have reached the maximum capacity for the camp sites (100) people.

There are many teams that haven’t paid yet. All teams camping on the group site were required to pre-pay by 4/30/04. If we don’t have your payment by that date, your reservation may be lost to a paying customer.

The WGA has already paid several hundred dollars to reserve these sites for the weekend. The nominal camping fee is required so we don’t lose money. At $8.00 a night/per team, we should break even.

Please take a look at the registration form to see if we received your payments yet. Check Here. If you have submitted your payment, but are not recorded as being “paid”, please contact us so there is no confusion.

    Thank you

    in reply to: T-Shirts? #1754550

This is your last call to order 2004 WGA Geo-Campout T-shirts. All orders are due by midnight tonight. At only $10 for most sizes (slightly more for the XXL and XXXL), these are a bargain. More than 60 shirts have already been ordered, so don’t miss out on getting your keepsake of the campout. Order here: http://wi-geocaching.com/oscommerce/
