We’re getting a meeting set up with the DNR, so we should be able to make some good progress at least as far as state-managed land.
As far as economic impact, that argument would not mean much to officials who are entrusted to look after public lands. They’re government employees. They care more about protecting the land and fulfilling their jobs than economic issues, and rightly so. If we want to appeal to their issues, we have to talk about the benefits for visitors, for the parks, for the parks officials, and about the environmental impact.

I was driving alot today and it seems that when I do that my brain starts to work on overdrive. Well I was wondering what we do if the only cache in a county is the cache that the finder placed. I mean like how I am the only one to put a cache in Langlade or Oconto County. How then can I find a cache in that County?
Alas, that is the quandry of the cache-placer. We know where all the best caches are (because we hid them), but we are not eligible to find them. But we continue to hide them anyway so others can enjoy.
This one is in honor of jthorson, who helped me find the Glacier Hills cache via telephone. Photo was taken along the trail.
I’m sorry to disappoint those who were already signed up and others who were considering attending, but due to family circumstances we won’t be able to host the party on July 4th. My sincere apologies to you all.

We are doing a whirlwind trip out to PA for Arn’s parent’s 50th anniversary that weekend; leave Sat AM, party Sat evening, head back Sun AM. If we hit chicago at the right time on the way back, we’re going to drop in at the picnic.
Wow, I just re-read your post and it dawned on me how far you’re driving in two days. Good luck!

Inspired by jthorson, we had our own fun with park signs yesterday. This was taken at the Missing in Monches cache.
At least they didn’t title the sign “Rules and Regulations”. I always wonder which ones are the rules and which are the regulations.

It was a good story overall, even though the reporter said GPS units send signals up to the satellites. Oops!
I’ll try to make it there to check it out, since I have to travel near there today. I’ll let you know if it’s still there.
The event is listed: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=25517&Nocache=0.7055475
Here’s another update about our plans. Ken will be playing in a 4th of July outdoor band concert at the band shell in Cedarburg starting at 8 p.m. If any geocachers want to attend as a group, we could go together and then enjoy the fireworks that start immediately following the concert. If you want to come just for the picnic at our house, that’s fine too.
Robin and I had fun with this too. We liked that the caches were not too far from us, although I know that was a hinderance to others who live farther away. We especially liked having six new caches to look for. The fact that there was a game involved made it even more fun. Well done!
Thanks, CacheCows, for your efforts to get the forums up and running again. We all appreciate it!
iso, thanks for posting your email response. Please provide the name and location of the DNR person who sent it so we can keep track of their latest opinions. Thanks.

The campout they referred to is coming up this weekend. It’s not part of the poker game cache. It’s the Wisconsin Geocaching Association event being held at Gov. Dodge State Park. You can read all about it here: http://wi-geocaching.com/camping.html
