I haven’t had further contact with the DNR about geocaching, so yes, that’s the latest I’ve heard.
I’m reviving this thread because I received an email from a friend of ours in Cleveland about a permit system the Cleveland Metroparks have put in place for goecaching. It looks like they have a geocaching champion within their parks department who understands the benefits of geocaching for all — including those who run the parks. It would be great to see if we could get this kind of official cooperation going with park officials in Wisconsin, including the DNR and county parks officials. YOu can read more about the Cleveland story at this link: http://opentopic.groundspeak.com/0/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=1750973553&f=3000917383&m=7280934054
OK. Just did it. Thanks for the idea.

We’re fine with it however you want to do it. I didn’t mean to sound impatient. I was just curious about how you planned to handle it. Thanks!
Does the game not start until all the cards are picked up? Just curious.
We’re looking forward to it too. Because of the size of the place, Robin and I plan to bring bicycles to get around so we don’t have to do a lot of extra driving. We encourage others to bring them too if you have room to do so. Maybe those of us on bikes can form a cycling-geocaching team.
That sounds great, Hotdogs! Let’s see if lots of people can come up with stuff.
I want to highlight my previous message one more time, because I received no response. I’m looking for items to include in a WGA-sponsored cache that will be sent to Des Moines for their geocaching event on June 1st. Wisconsin-themed items would be great: cheese-related (not actual cheese), cows, Brewers, Packers, anything that has to do with Wisconsin. If you’re going to be at the campout, bring the items to me then. If you’re not going to the campout, leave a note here and we’ll figure out how to get the items from you. Thanks!

Too modest! You KNOW that’s not true!

Hey cool, John. Would you consider posting your PP file on line so we could take a look?

Congrats John… glad you enjoyed finding my caches.I looked back and my one year anniversary was March 4. I actually didn’t find the first cache I went looking for (Michi gami) because it had been stolen/vandalized. I tried a different cache later in the day (Pookie’s Stash) and scored my first find.
I remember Pookie’s Stash. That was my second-ever find, Robin’s first. I just read the posts again and see that you were able to find it easily because of our footprints in the snow. I still have the pen I got from that stash… been using it all day today.
Congratulations, John! Robin and I have enjoyed reading your posts and finding your caches. At the upcoming campout we hope to be able to spend more time chatting with you and other cachers than we had at the picnic last summer.
Had to go to Fond du Lac today, so made a day of it and found this cache on the way up. Very cool, guys.
Here’s my email exchange with Stan Miller, the reporter from the Journal-Sentinel.
Ken,The story I did on the Geocaching picnic was my best weekend assignment
to date, and I remember it fondly even though it took our team the
entire day to find one cache. The camp-out sounds excellent, although I
will be in LA at the time for a video game trade show. I am going to
bookmark that link you sent so I can keep up with what is going on.Thanks for the note,
Stan

Subject: geocachingStan,
Thanks for the geocaching mention in the “Top 10” article in Sunday’s
paper. It was nice to see you remembered our gathering at Pike Lake last summer. Some of the other geocachers asked me how much I had to pay you to mention my Pike Powder Hike cache in your article. In case you’re interested, those of us who organized the picnic last summer are at it again. We now have a web site (wi-geocaching.com) and we’re planning a camp-out at Governor Dodge State Park west of Madison to be held the weekend of May 17-19. You’d be welcome to stop by, of course. We already have 81 people registered to attend.

South of the first one and north of Milwaukee. Hmmm… sounds like my ‘hood! Anyone want to pay me to pick up cards for them? Just kidding.
