I’ve looked at that cache a few times and pondered how to exactly get there. Seems that cache rescues don’t come often as the lonely cache game, is there a guide on how they choose which ones are checked up on?

Had to expand my search quite a bit yesterday on a few caches that I did, just kept at it until I eventually got lucky or found it. I think a couple I was a good hundred feet from where the gps said it should have been. I was about to give up but knew they had to be there as someone found them recently, but with the rain and cloud cover it was not fun to wander farther and farther.

Like I said previously we will replace, but if we don’t have paper with I leave a NM log. (we even once went so far to go back the vehicle and tear up an envelope to add in.) But, in my limited experience I’ve found that after we get back to log the cache that there was people that did maintenace or reported in the logs that the log was full or wet and yet the owner didn’t tend to it, and seeing that I have gotten to the point that if we don’t drop paper or tend to the cache when I go log it I right away afterward put out a NM log, that way I feel that anyone after me knows that there may be an issue with this cache.
I don’t know why owners (and some owners are caching yet) don’t tend to their caches instead of hiding hundreds of more caches. I have one that I know will need a log replacement soon and it is my goal to have it done this week.

I answered that we don’t like to mess with someone’s sheets, but we do carry extra sheets (when we aren’t spur of the moment) to add to caches that are full or need a dry sheet.
We don’t remove any logs as some owners like to keep them for mementos. Seems this summer was hard on us a few times as we found alot of caches that needed new/dry sheets and we ran out in our bag alot.

Same for us, we bought our first park sticker in years because of the fact that we camped in a state forest that had geocaches, and we’ve used it alot since to go to other parks in the state.

Kc9gbo is my ham radio call, originally it was just me and never thought we’d get so hooked. Well, now everybody in the house likes to go so we sign and crew. Oldest boy spun off his own account so he signs below our signature usually as his name Zach K. but hardly ever logs the find.
Thinking of changing it to better reflect us, but not sure what to change it to.

Drat! I’d love to go and will be in the area, but heading to Stevens Point if things schedule out right.
Looked at this one a couple of times and pondered doing it, and this sounds like the perfect oppurtunity.

    Oh yeah, Congrats to them!
I found the cache number: GC1ZRZQ right across from where we stayed, hoping to get up there again next summer.

Can you post the cache number? I was going to do one at Big Muskellunge lake this past July, but couldn’t due to the low water level at the canoe landing. I only had 50 feet of muck and mud to drag the canoe through and then a long drive home from up there.

    Lostby,
Not to hijack this thread but that was one of the things I learned today while looking this up for them! I thought wow, that would be an awesome idea for an Earthcache and then I looked and I’m like wow I need to do that one now.

Since I have loads of time to kill and the weather is cruddy outside, I saw your post this morning and have been killing time trying to find info for you. Here are a couple places with some information that may help you.

http://www.wisconline.com/wisconsin/geoprovinces/centralplain.html (it seems to pull from a book that I have posted below, just a brief mention of the vegetation cover influence.)

Google preview of the book referenced above:

I’ve learned a couple of new things today just googling this. Yeah Me!!)

http://openlibrary.org/b/OL6339878M/geography_of_the_central_sand_plain_of_Wisconsin (This looks interesting, thesis paper from 1935, the following site has a library listing for it. It appears to have been scanned into digital form, so I wonder if it would be worth emailing asking for the scan?)

http://dnr.wi.gov/master_planning/land_legacy/documents/csandplains.pdf (not much on topic here, but this is a nice pdf by the DNR describing the area)
About all I could find online, hopefully some of the geologists on here answer back and can help you out even more.

Excellent post PcFrog! I totally agree with you on keeping up the quaulity of caches in your area. Your post is exactly what I was thinking of and couldn’t come up with a way to say it. I’ve posted NM logs when needed, and dnf’ed when I feel it is warranted to let others know that there is activity on the cache or that someone else is blind also.
I’ve seen your NM/SA on a few area caches that have been hanging around for some reason and never get taken care of, I think you are doing a favor for your area. To me, quality caches should be more important than having tons of caches that aren’t being maintained or are hidden to the point that people can’t find them just to see DNF’s roll in.

I’d say I’d go caching with you Trekkin as I’m sure we could come up with some you haven’t done around here yet, but I have to p/u the kids from school at 2:30-3ish.

I know Putterizer wanted to hide a cache in/near that one T&B, but couldn’t since the maze was only for a month.
We have never been through a corn maze, but we may just have to go to the one near here someday.

Yep, there is an application for it, I have it on my profile.
