Hey! That sounds like something that I was thinking of doing locally.. In fact I was just going to post something on that facebook page to see if their was any interest.
Congrats! When I last talked to him he was hoping to get out around here and glad to see he did.
For my one that’s listed on both sites I put a note on the GC one after it published and considered the ftf a co-find for that site. Seemed only fair as alot of folks haven’t heard of the other one.
Sure, why didn’t you post this like Friday night before I accepted the adoption request?
Seriously good advice and something that almost should be referenced in the wiki or pinned.
As for the cache that I adopted was disabled due to it being missing and I have all intentions to replace it but now due to the heavy snowfall it may end up waiting until spring when I can make the climb to it.
Thanks for the great advice!I listed one on .com just to kick the wheels. I suppose it attracted me because of being back by Garmin and I wanted to see how they did as to me personally it is the only legititmate contender to GC as they have the financial power and the CAPABILITY to attract people to their site. After playing with it and seeing some of the features, I think the .us site has way more types to chase (some I shake my head at) and probably has the edge actually being a better site at the moment. The .com one.. well let’s just say I listed probably the one and only cache I will list there as it just doesn’t impress me and having listened to podcasts with the Garmin folks has even turned me off even more as it just seems to be too commercially driven.
My unimportant thoughts on the future: .com will be tweaked and have way more listed than .us only because of the Garmin tie in but will never attract a strong following as much as GC has.
.us will remain and slowly grow, but will never take off and be a strong force due to Garmin financial backing of .com, but .us will cultivate a strong following of the anti establishment crowd.
GC will remain dominant and will take the best features of the OC caches and keep the folks that keep the lights on happy. I think even though GC has alienated folks that having options available to folks will hopefully spur GC to finally get the momentum going.
Now that was just my thoughts, probably what will happen is more like a Sears type mentality will develop where they ignored the attack by Walmart until all of a sudden it was too late and they cease to be a marketplace force. Thanks foks! Nice easy family friendly cache it was. Had a great time on it with my sister and her family along as they wanted to know what this geothingie we do is. Can’t believe it’s 1400 already and in December to top it off.
At this rate it will be an all day drive to do the powertrail. Wonder if I can 4 in a day?
Yeah, doesn’t the over crowding suck already?
you are late VT!! I already have the honor or dishonor of being the first in the area to list one. I published it there a couple days ago and still unfound.
I’m finding the site is speedier on loading, that was something that I noticed the last couple months having to use a different computer that the site had developed a lag time but now with this great update it is a lot quicker. Great job on the site!!
Ditto on me also for Eau Claire and the Challenges Zuma has.
Used ours to map snowmobile trails for my personal use, which then turned into contributing back to the local county group for use on their maps along with matching with the local land records at the county level to see property owners that we run through to verify we had everyone. The maps are the most accurate we’ve ever had.
Gwyn, I think I know of the cache you speak. Sorry for taking the spot, but also am happy that your headache is gone. I’d still like to see a Wig over here, but since I don’t have the right device to make it work properly sometimes it’s also nice not to see one in my backyard. Double edged case here with positives and bummers if you decide to plod through with the Wig just to learn I can help you out by removing the cache.
Dovetailing into that, I’m the President for a local snowmobile club and we have the LaCrosse river bike trail as part of our area and in my yearly discussions with the local contact from the DNR he mentioned that due to budget concerns they can’t mow or trim the trail and they are happy that we’ve taken over to get some of the more troublesome areas. So, I can imagine if they can’t trim trees or mow that paperwork has to be down the list also.
One option you may want to explore if you have a smartphone is tethering and depending on who you have for a provider for the cell. That’s what I use on the Blackberry and my laptop, I love have internet in the middle of the northwoods!
