I try to buy at least three of the same coin so I can keep one in a collection, send one out into the geoworld and sell the other one or more on ebay to cover the cost of the one I keep and the one I sent out. That way if it gets stolen, I am not out anything. I do put them in a bag with a note warning them that this is an “activated” coin and cannot be transferred or altered. I also warn them that if someone were to get the number off the coin and I find out that it was stolen…well I just tell them that I have several ways of dealing with them. I have sent out a couple of coins just in a holder to see how long they make it.

😕 Ok, now that you finally got the 1000 milestone behind you…when will we see your first hide? You promised! 🙄

Checked into a cache in central WI that was placed by someone from Iowa that had a note that it was not there anymore. Owner posted note almost a year ago that they were going to replace it. I asked them nicely to archive it if they couldn’t come and fix it soon and they did archive it shortly after and thanked me for reminding them. It is a nice park and I mentioned to them that someone else may want to place one in the area. I did double check the area and it was definately gone. People that have a long way to drive to maintain a cache need to think twice before placing it. I have one cache in Northern WI and it is near my cabin. I go up there a few times over the spring and summer (more often in the fall chasing grouse!) and can check on it when I am up there.

I understand what you are saying, you sometimes visit a forum and make a post and then get hit with “friendly fire.” You have to be prepared to get some unfavorable comments sometimes, otherwise you shouldn’t be posting on a forum. I have visited and posted on several different forums and noticed that people can and will use them in good and bad ways. Some moderators create forums as a public whipping of board members and people they hate. They only allow posts that benefit thier views and remove those that don’t. Some people love to use forums to attack and flame others, just human nature in some people. Moderators should remove personal attacks and warn those who post them that their actions will not be tolerated. What I would rather see is that if a person has a problem with someone, either privately email them or seek them out face to face and please keep it out of the public forums.
Also, geocaching is different to everyone, to some its numbers, to others its seeing nature or the outdoors. To us it is a mix of: numbers, getting that next cache off the top of our list of caches closest to home or just taking the family outdoors. It just depends on our mood.
