I’m not afraid to stand up for something I personally believe can make a difference. Criticism I can handle, I have thick skin. Does that mean i’ll drop the topic just because others don’t agree? Not always. I will pursue it in a professional manner trying to branch out to others. Just like if someone were to purpose something I at first didnt agree with, I would not shut the thought out. Seeing as everyone on the board are adults, I’m sure we could come to a resolution on all topics being addressed responsibly and respectfully.
I believe the CITO events are an important aspect of the WGA, and raising that awareness.
Like previously stated though it is not the main goal of the WGA, which I agree with. WGA’s main focus is to promote and spreading knowledge of geocaching.Beccaday brings up a good idea for photos. It made me think maybe not only photos with stories but also “photo of the month”. Where geocachers can submit their photos from their adventures and the board can vote on the best one.
I think it should be a variety of topics and writers. Keeps us interested and coming back for more. Ideas for topics right off the top of my head include the following:
– Recommend caches for winter
– Geocaching Stories
– Geocaching Tips
– Earthcaches
– Night cachingI would like too see a different writer every week. Also, including submissions from any WGA member willing to share. I personally would commit to writing 4-5 each year.
Traveling? No problem I love it and usually do it whenever there’s a good opportunity for a good time. Time? Oh, I’ve got plenty and a very flexible schedule as far as work goes. Involvement? No problem! I’ll get my hands dirty and gladly work at any events. I love the environment and passion of people at the events. If I don’t get much time to cache personally, it’s not a big deal to me. I put a lot of thought into running for BOD and wouldn’t of accepted if I didn’t feel I could handle it.
I’d have to agree with CacheNoTtace with saying the CITO’s are one of our biggest strengths. Giving back to the community and keeping a good connection there can only benefit the WGA now and in the future. Also, would have to agree with Walkingadventure on our groups diversity. There are people of all ages and backgrounds involved in geocaching and that gives the WGA a very well rounded bunch. I don’t believe there is really any wrong answer to this question though. The WGA as a whole has so many strengths and we see those strengths in the faces of those at events, the volunteers, the teams out placing caches, anyone who participates in the forums and discussions. We are lucky to have such a large group of people around our state involved on a daily basis. That alone is a great strength, we only continue to grow every year with more and more passionate geocachers.
I definatly think technology has helped Geocaching to grow. Many people can experience geocaching now without having to purchase a GPS. Any person who hears about it can now just download the app and give it a try, see if they like it. I know that’s how I personally got involved in geocaching at first.
I make sure to check the forums at least once daily, usually it’s more like three or four times for me. I feel it’s important to keep up on what people are asking of us candidates. The forum is here for a reason for us to have our voices heard but also the fellow WGA members. Everyone has been asking such great questions!
We defiantly should keep the education and awareness of geocaching out in the community. Not only for those soon to be retired but for anyone who could take an interest in geocaching. The WGA will only continue to grow in the years to come that’s for sure.
Yes and Yes!
I definatly support the funding of CITO events.
Difficult question because many of the reactions are put it on Facebook or put it on the WGA site. Not all the geocaches visit either of these two regularly. Which can most likely be said for any form of putting the newsletter out there. Just have to pick and choose and decided what would be best for the majority of people. I like the idea of having a newsletter again, I just think a lot more thought would have to be put into this idea. I feel it has great potential if taken on by the board members as something to look into.
Being in a manger position within my job I’d have to say leadership and management. On a daily basis I’m in charge of a team and I’m one of the leaders of that team. Having to keep everyone working well together. Making sure everything we need is getting done in a timely and professional manner.
Usually plan out my route before hand while loading up the GPS. Writing them down in order inside of my Geocaching Journal. Pack up some snacks, fruit , and plenty of water. Can’t forget to grab the camera for pictures on my geocaching blog. Usually in the planning process like to make sure there’s a little bit of everything when it comes to terrain and sizes. This summer I plan on geocaching on Madeline Island. Do some camping at Big Bay State Park, hiking on the trails, perhaps some swimming in-between finding the 9 geocaches on the island.
I also would have to agree that the quality of the geocaches are the same. As Sweetlife said “it all depends on where you are”. I feel that really has a lot to do with it. Wherever we go through out the state I’ve never really been disappointed by a geocache.
