There is a problem apparently with the GPX file and those who are using foxfire browsers. The Tech guy is working on a workaround, but apparently IE users should have no problems.

Also, reports coming in that the Room with a View Cache is on disputed property. The B&B that owns the land gave clearance to place there, but a neighbor claims it is his land. I would avoid that one until clear.

    Fun fun! Thanks for playing!

One more thing. For those that have already downloaded it and found it to not work. You can wait until CVB uploads correct file (which I was told will be no later than 9 am tomorrow 5/9/06), or email me at [email protected] and I will send it as an attachment. However, I need you to send the XML file as an attachment so I know you did the liability waiver thingy (that is what the lawyers say anyway…) Sorry about that. Glitch or Opening day jitters… 🙂

It somehow got converted from GPX when I sent it to them this weekend. I have resent it. They should have new file up tomorrow morning. Until then go with what others suggest. It was made with GSAK.

    Thanks for the patience!

EVENT STARTS 12:01 A.M. MONDAY MORNING. WEBPAGE GOES LIVE THEN TOO!!! When you agree to waiver of liability, you will be redirected to the area to download passbook and GPX file.

Names of caches in the GPX file (that show up in your GPSr) are in sequence of passbook, i.e. first cache in book will be CVGC001 thru GVCG032. Parking coords use cache names not numbers; i.e. Old Peeper Parking.

    Enjoy!

Finishing touches are being done. Passbooks are in final draft, coords have been triple checked, Zuma replaced washed out cache, GPX file is sent to CVB website for download for event. Things are ready to rock. Event goes live 5/8. Stay tuned.

For those of you seeking GPX file, I have one made. We are looking to confirm 2 cache coordinates, and once we get those, I will make the final file. I will make sure CVB has the file available to download.

Here is page with a bit more info. FIRST, THE DATES ARE ON THE WEBPAGE, but event will start May 8n thru June 15. Date change apparently for technical reasons. When event goes active in the next week there will also be a link with hotel rates, specials, etc. More to come. Oh, and they are thinking they are also going to be giving as prizes gas cards as well! Those just aren’t listed yet.

Excuse me. I tend to mix names up. The proper name is Chippewa Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau. CVB not CTB. I am having one of those weeks.

I would say copy it or print a second and punch both. No other entry method came to mind where cache find could be verified. Remember, this is the fledgling attempt. I am anxious for feedback after to see what to change for next year.

Thanks for the tip about Pure Water Paddlers. Keep my eye on em. Still looking for other ideas.

And yes, three pawn shops here had em. But all were beat to crud and they wanted 450 or 550. Yikes.

Of course I could wait to respond until my coffee has kicked in. GSAK. I’ll see what I can do.

At this point, not sure how to accomodate those who are going “paperless”. The thinking is that anyone planning on entering the drawings will not be able to go paperless because the passbooks that you punch will serve as your entry slips. Oh, and the grandprize GPSr is rather, um, “colorful”… 🙂

I suppose that I can make the waypoint files I have from Mapsource available if people email me directly but that doesn’t help those who are using something besides Garmin. The thinking behind this event is that it is a fledgling attempt to see if it pays to do it yearly. If so, then they will/can invest in the software to make this more stremlined.

Other idea. Anyone out there planning on participating that uses spomething other than Garmin who is willing to make the waypoint files, email em to me and I can distribute according to what people need?

    Just a thought.

Cache on the Barrelhead. That was one of the first few I did (around 60?). A great cache! Did it with wife, kids, and my brother (Team Slobbercakes, a less than avid cacher, but a cacher none the less!). Got a speeding ticket on my way to it from Osseo! Ah, memories.
