Do you mean the campout in Dodgeville? Not that far from us (Ferryille), but have not been to a “meet” yet. We have a travel trailor, so we can’t camp with the group, so how the heck do we find them? Do you all have some sort of huge GeoFlag marking the spot or what…oh wait… it’s a coordinate ain’t it??? ok, I’m lost already! Ha!
Hey there One Happy Dragon! We’re new to here and caching also and just found our first cache this past weekend! This place has alot of great people and I can’t wait to get more involved…. come on Spring!!!!
Also interested in finding out if homemade “coins” can be made trackable.. do you have a link to the kind you are talking about?
We were just think about getting colored aluminum disks and punching
words/pictures on them… Still trying to come up with something unique,
but creativity is not my baliwick!
Welcome!Great news! We found our 1st cache! And I’ll tell ya what…. you learn alot from your 1st one! hahahaa…at first we were waaaaayyyyy off, then we thought…no way.. it can’t be over there…. then…who the heck is going to crawl up there??? I voted for hubby….then…hey hon? Could this be it?????
It was an absolute thrill to find this first one, and of course, now we are hooked!
And in the spirit of Easter…hubby bought a bunch of those bigger plastic Easter Eggs that come apart…. and he’s going to hide them around the yard ( 6 acres) for me to find. This will help him learn to place caches more accurately and inventive… and help me learn how to navigate with the GPSr… I told him though…. if he put little miniature bottles of scotch in each one, bet I could find them alot faster!!!
Oh, and we decided we needed to invest in a couple of those aluminum hiking poles with interchangable ends after I slid down that hill in the mud and snow! hahahahaha!I’ve been in IT forever, or so it seems.. Worked for the Dept of Defense in the beginning, writing computer programs on punch cards! I spent 15 years in Holland then drug my Dutch husband home to the States in 2000….then drug him into Geo-caching… I think I see a pattern!
Now work for the VA making sure all the pretty medical pictures get put into their electronic medical record. Work at a computer all day, play/work on one at night, then couldn’t get enough and bought a GPSr!Well our first cache expedition was a bust… According to our GPS, we were right on top of 2 of them, but they were under 3+ feet of snow!
We figured the snow was going to be a problem, but we just wanted to get a feel for the unit and how it really works. Yep.. I can see this getting addicting! Now Melt Snow!!!Thanks for the offer to help Mike, appreciate it! Might take you up on it when it warms up (if it ever does!)
We are near Ferryville and are heading out in about an hour, down hwy 35 to see if we can find our first cache!
What is a GRR series? Thanks EnergySaver, that certainly helps! Question…Do we contact our
local “cache approvers” first, before.. let’s say…get permission from the DNR or does the approver do that?
Just what is the role of an approver?I’m baaacckkkk… and boy did I make a mistake! I was all set to buy the Garmin Venture HC…then… I went to Cabelas….wrong move.. walked out with a $350 Garmin GPSmap 76Cx! And I’ve never even geocached before (is that a word?). I keep telling myself that I’ll just try it out, then take it back and get something cheaper,.. but I have a funny feeling that after using this thing, I will NOT want to go back…
We were going to go out today for the first time, but it’s windy as heck, so maybe tomorrow. At first it was just me that was interested in this, but now I got hubby roped into it ! He’s more interested in placing caches instead of finding them, so hopefully we will make a good team. I’m getting ready to print out all the info/rules on placing caches, but anything you might feel would be helpful, pls let me know!
Hopefully when the nice weather finally comes around, we’ll get to meet some of you! -
