There is no charge for name tags. Just another benefit of being a member of the WGA! Your tag will be available at the merchandise table on Saturday.

These were updated a while ago. Please use the WGA bookmark for the current list. I have all of the current caches on that list on my watch list and up date the WGA bookmark when any changes are made.

It is shared a lot on the Fox Valley Geocachers Face Book page for participants for Lets go Dutch. I am the current CO and the admon of the page so I post when partners are needed! Thanks for keeping it going and coming out of retirement to assist!

Russ, would you be willing to be part of the LCG committee?

It would be great to see more members involved in the WGA. I know from the time I served previously the idea of member committee members was discussed to help keep members engaged and make events and the WGA more “member-owned” I had a member committee member assist with the Kids Klub activity at one event and it was a great experience for both of us.
I think making BOD meeting minutes more visible to members would keep members more engaged and know what activities are available for them to step up and assist with. The more the members know what is going on the more apt they would be to get involved, spread the word and attend events. Ownership is important to engagement!
I think we could also increase event attendance if we gave members the opportunity to help plan a theme, games, of a specific activity for said events. Give members more input on merchandise available, colors, sizes, designs, items besides clothing.

Keeping members coming to the website is an uphill battle. In today’s world we want info now, and easily. Checking Facebook or other social media is quick and easy to access on our phones, tablets and even smart watches. The WGA website is not the most user friendly platform, on a PC, tablet or otherwise. I think that modernizing the website and making it more user friendly would be a tremendous help, but I don’t know how we can achieve that without out sourcing the work, which could prove expensive and may not be the best use of WGA funds. We do need the website for numerous reasons, elections, the LCG, archival purposes to name a few.
If elected I would like to see us reach out to other Geocaching Organizations and see if they are experiencing the same trends; if they are, see what they are doing to redirect traffic to their website, or if not, what they are doing to keep their website relevant.

I would say I am Nachos! Sturdy and able to support others like the chip. Warm and spicy like the meat. Colorful like the tomatoes, sharp like the onions and jalapenos . Cool and refreshing like the sour cream. Wholesome and earthy like the cheese. And like the Nachos’ ingredients, which are all good on their own, when you put it all together you get an AWESOME creation, like myself!

Great question Chris.
I am going to start with your 2nd question first. I have run in the previous 2 elections, coming up a few votes short each time. Circumstances allowed me to serve on the Board for about one year. During that time I served as Secretary, planned 2 KidzKlub projects, co-chaired a themed camp out, as well as attended every WGA sponsored event.
I am running for the Board again this year because I know I made an impact during the time I served and I know I have more to give and offer. I want to continue to grow the KidzKlub, plan great events, and rekindle relationships the WGA has/had with other organizations.

As I have served previously as well, I too know what time an mental efforts are required of a board member. I know I have the skills to prioritize my duties, life and BOD, as needed and also know when I need to reach out and ask for help. The board I served with were all willing to help when needed, and stepped up to make sure no one was over tasked. I also have a great support system in my everyday life, and these people know my passion for Geocaching and will also be there to step up and help me with my needs.
Bottom line, know how far you can stretch yourself and ask for help WHEN, not if, you stretch a little to far.

I want to start by saying that “a quality cache” is different to each cacher. To one cacher it may be a long hike, a bike ride or kayak trip leading to an ammo can or bigger sized container. The next cacher may think a quality cache is one that requires risk, such as climbing a tree. Yet another cacher defines a quality cache as one they can do easily because they have health or mobility issues to contend with.
With that in mind, for the purpose of this question, I am going to consider “a quality cache” a cache that is in good condition. This would mean that the container is not missing or in poor repair. It is a full container with a log that has room to be stamped or signed. The cache page is up to date, has accurate attributes listed and has maintenance preformed on a regular basis.
I think the WGA can share information and help educate the membership through our wonderful Website, either as front page stories or as a forum topic. We can utilize our Face Book page to post tips and reminders for maintaining a quality cache. A great outlet would be for members to contribute articles to our quarterly newsletter talking about what makes a quality cache and how to keep it that way. We can also ask one of our valued reviewers to talk at an event again, reviewing the policy and procedure of placing a cache, maintaining your own cache and also how and when to add a maintenance log to a cache this is not in good repair.

If a cacher who has fallen from the game reached out to me I would help them get going again a couple different ways. One, I would encourage them to visit the WGA Website and Facebook page to see all that is going on in the Geo-World now. I would also encourage them to look for local groups on Facebook so they can try to connect with other cachers and hopefully get their mojo back by reading about other’s adventures and the awesome pictures our members post.
I would also try to set a time for me and that person to get together and do some caching. And hopefully attend an event with them. Nothing gets the juices flowing like a good social event!
As far as special caches they should look for, it would depend on what they are looking to get out of geocaching. Our state has great caches for every desire. There are great gadget caches to recommend, or maybe a longer hike to a larger cache? Maybe an easier to find, but fun series is what they are looking for. I am sure that whatever their heart desires we can find for them to do!

I identify most with people. Why? I never met a stranger! I like talking to people and learning their story or listening to their problems. I like to help people whenever I can, however I can. I am comfortable approaching people I don’t know and I am comfortable talking in front of a group.
People dont come with the rigid guidelines that numbers do. With people 1 +1 does not have to equal 2, according to mathamatical theory 1+1 must equal 2. Working with people allows me freedom to be creative and use my problem solving skills to be creative and effective in a way that best fits the situation.
I do like pictures, but I take them and honestly never do anything with them! I prefer to look at them than being the one creating them.
I do like words. Of course how could I talk with people without them! But with words come the rules of periods and commas and spelling and run on sentences.
Although it sounds like I am against rules, I am not! I respect and live by the rules every day. But if I have a choice in what I am doing I will pick the option that has the rules I can follow easiest and will allow me to be most successful.

That’s a double milestone of sorts! The comma club and earning the Mega Event Souvenir. Congrats and best of luck on your next!
