I would like to see more consistency in the enforcement of the distance between caches.  The rule is already in place, but I have seen, and been affected by this distance not being enforced. This may seem trivial but the integrity of the game should be honored in all aspects. I have been denied rights to place a cache because I was only 524 feet from and existing cache, while a few months later a cache was placed approximately 300 feet away from one of mine. True, it does not take away from my cache or the one that was placed in the radius of mine, but again the granting of a cache with in 528 feet of another weakens the premise of the rule.

I live in Kaukauna and feel lucky that most events are only a few hours drive for me. But I would love to have more “excuses” to pack the tent, fill the gas tank and drive!! This may sound somewhat backwards, but I would like to see us focus some of our energies on the lesser member- populated areas of the state.  I envision working with the local chamber/s and city officials to bring a WGA sponsored event to these areas to raise awareness of Geocaching and the WGA to drive membership. If the general public is not made aware of the WGA and what we have to offer, how can we win them over as members? By using social media, the WGA website and word of mouth we need to campaign to get interest in “pinning” our home locations and focus on the lower concentration areas.

I started caching 6/7/14 and went to my 1st event, “Our Dam Meet and Greet” a mere month later. This was not a WGA event, but it made me want to go to MORE!!!

My first WGA event was a few months down the road, September 7th 2014, the 2014 WGA  Geo Picnic at Kettle Moraine State Forest – Lapham Peak Unit. WOW – what a difference from the first event I attended where only 8 people/teams including myself attended. 93 teams and individuals log attendance at the 2014 Picnic. I came to this event with my geo-buddies JeepDBC and Diesel76. Since we were all new to caching and were at our first event we joined up with some experienced cachers and cached our way through the park learning more in those few hours than we had in the 2 months we had been caching.  Then to top it off we ALL won a raffle prize!!

Since that first modest event I have attended 35 events. 5 of those being WGA events.

The WGA events I have attended are as follows:

2014 WGA Geo Picnic, 2015 WGA Geo-Campout, WGA Breakfast|Cakes on the Cliff, 2016 WGA Wild Cakes & Stampede Sausages, 2016 Fall Geo Picnic

My favorite WGA event would have to be the 2016 Fall Geo Picnic. Despite the horrid weather at this event I made the most connections and came out of my shell the most. This event gave me so much more than a great caching experience, and really encouraged me to go out of my comfort zone a lot more.

*note* I only listed events that were/are listed as “an event cache hosted by the Wisconsin Geocaching Association”

If elected to the board I will bring fresh ideas and fresh  energy. I have a lot of experience working on teams and feel that experience will help me fit in. As the administrator of the Fox Valley Geocachers  Facebook page I have met a lot of people and have heard a lot of feed back and ideas for the board and would love to bring these to the board to try and make sure that member’s voices are heard. I am very outgoing and LOVE to talk to people, I feel I can get the voice of the members heard and their ideas and concerns addressed.

I have the time and energy to give a lot of myself to the board. I have one child that is 21, and work a standard business work week which will allow me a lot of time to focus on the WGA and what would be asked of me.

I also have a good “relationship” with technology that I could use to help bring the WGA further in the social media world and make our geographic locations feel closer.

I think a 15th “birthday” bash would be appropriate. I envision an event where all attendees bring a birthday gift that would be used as raffle prizes at the end of the event. Special geocaching related party games like pin the coordinate on the map, bobbing for cache containers, etc. The sale of a 15th year coin, path tag, or clothing. As well as recognition to the former Board Members. And of course….BIRTHDAY CAKE AND ICE CREAM!!

My mission statement as a Board Member would be similar to my personal mission statement.

“Be a person of high energy and integrity, while respecting the views and opinions for those around me to further the membership of the WGA and geocaching overall.”

My mission statement may not be in-depth or wordy, but why use 100 words when 28 will do? All my actions can be held accountable to the simple questions, was that my best effort? Did I handle myself in a positive way? Did I treat that person/people they way I would want my Mom to be treated? If I can answer yes to all those questions I know I can hold my head high with what ever I did or am doing.
