I’m jealous to see how well the Wisconsin geocaching group is organized. You’d think that was as many geocachers in St. Louis that we have, we’d be better organized. We don’t have meetings – just trying to get a discussion going about planning a picnic is like pulling teeth!

Anyway, I want to mention that one of our new geocaching members took it upon herself to discuss geocaching on some of the DNR property just outside of St. Louis with management. She wanted to place a cache there and decided to take the proper route and get permission. One of the rangers was already aware of geocaches on land under his jurisdiction because a co-worker had seen a news piece of geocaching and alerted him. He decided not to have the cache pulled, but is working on getting a form created so that caches can be ‘registered’. This way, they know where the cache is who put it there. Not so much to watch over it, but so that maintenance personnel will know what they are when they find them. I really want this form to be make available to everyone in electronic form and put on our web site (http://www.geostl.com).

This is really a drop in a bucket, since the ranger is only responsible for one of many pieces of goverment property in the area. I am hoping that this particular effort can be used as an example for other rangers to follow.
