We didn’t get first, but thanks to Sevencard and his FTF geocaching experience, he flew out the door and got there in 4th placeΒ  πŸ™‚ Me and Derek made it a few minutes later to say hi and meet him in person :).Β  we all had our pictures taken, Sevencards got a puzzle book consolation prize – more of a fun memento than a monetary thing –Β  The week before we got someone to the treasure location in 9th place out of over 6000, with Sevencards we got 4th out of over 7000… if they do this again we are prepared and wanting 1st!!! lol – TY again Sevencards!!! it was fun!!

It has been a while since i have been here… it has gotten awfully quiet!

I am looking to see if there are any searchers with in a 50mi radius of Milwaukee’s North Point Lighthouse that may be avail. Sat. Sept. 3rd for about maybe 30-60min between 10am and 1pm (I will have a better idea of time maybe that morning) I am looking for some “searchers” for a treasure hunt that will be run here that day, it is a huge area to cover!Β  the BOTG person who is first to find the coin will get half the $1000 prize ($500).Β  i have a group of puzzle solvers/decoders/hunters, 4 of us are in the area.Β  Last week we only had a couple of people to be BOTG in a different city and out person got there 9th and he was a good distance away – almost 7000 were emailed the puzzles when they dropped – i think we did pretty good, we would love to win my hometown!!! if you know anyone who may be interested, please let me know!!! I can also be reached on FB under by name, Debby Koenig (profile has a young me sitting outside with my 2 (then little) kids πŸ™‚Β  i will do my best to monitor this thread!!

Hello everyone!!! it has been a long time since i have posted or ran out doing some caching… (which i am going to remedy!!) I have a question for you knowledgeable northerners… i am working on a puzzle/treasure hunt and there is a picture of a lookout tower that i think may be “up nort” I was wondering if maybe, just maybe someone may be a bit of a historian and recognize the picture and what tower it may be… here it is

great to hear it all went well bartrod… are you going to have the room long enough to see a game? lol i will do my best to report on “the misadventures of koolma_k and the gang geocaching” – i could probably write a book! (at least i haven’t needed medical attention for anything yet!!)

Oh, and BBG, i got my avatar up, you can see the “little guy” who went for a swim standing next to his very happy Mom… he is up at the Duluth CG station and has become a avid back packer and is loving the superior trail.

got a chance to look the little bugger up… looks like he is maybe a DeKay’s brownsnake?

Ah, there’s another familiar name… 2nd hip replacement?? ouch!! hope everything goes well and you feel like a 20yr old again when it is done πŸ˜‰ (i have a few of my own health issues that have kept me away, so trying to ease back into things πŸ™‚ )

Thank you for the welcome back W.A., i was pretty gungho in the beginning when i had my tree climber extraordinaire (son) who liked to cache with me and a couple of old work friends, but the kid and friends got busy and it is just not as fun doing it all by yourself (although it is easier to make a FTF if you don’t have to wait for someone else to get ready! lol) My significant others kid (well, kinda kid, she is 21 now) seems to be pretty interested in caching so i may be getting out and doing more as her schedule allows and I’m working on getting my other half a little more interested in it also (like BBG i kinda screwed up taking my honey out to a couple of rough ones the first few times – he must have lost at least a pint or 2 of blood doing the peter pan series around memorial day and probably 10#s in sweat from the heat and hiking through tall grass, and picked up a couple of friendly ticks that were big enough to be momentarily mistaken as spiders!! – he’s never been the same since – doesn’t like ticks or spiders πŸ˜€ ) Fortunately the kid doesn’t seem to scare as easy. We ended up having time for only a couple of caches, we did Hot Dog, Outhouse, and Sharknado ate… the first two were pretty easy and fun, but Sharkando put us through our paces. True to form i tried to find the easiest route to the cache which inevitably ends up being way harder than necessary (normally realize that on the way out) had a nice path, saw pavement, went through thorny bushes to get to the pavement to only find out it was someones very long driveway… oops… then back through the thorny bushes, across a field, down a wooded ravine to only crawl back out of it, then through another field, back into the woods… did i mention thorny bushes every time we entered or exited woods and field?? Got WP1 and forgot how to put coord.s into my gps (we were using our phones because the #@%^$# GPS still wouldn’t download caches) finally figured out how to put coords into google maps (lol) got to WP2 50′ away looking at all the wrong stuff only to look up and see the big shark (felt so stupid…lol) went to retrieve the cache and had to ask the kid it the thing by the can was a long worm or a little snake, well, it wasn’t a worm!! it was all fun and games until we actually uncovered him (after unsuccessfully trying to shoo him away) then he got a little angry and struck a pose for us while he darkened up his markings. Fortunately i was able to grab the cache while the kid kept an eye on the guardian of the cache since i knew he was no garder snake. She took his picture while i signed the log, then i kept an eye on him while she signed, we covered everything back up as good as he would let us and went on our happy way.. mission completed – fortunately we didn’t go to deep into the woods because i forgot to mark where we parked to find our way back πŸ˜€ So, now that she has told some of her other family about that cache i know there will be a few who will be guaranteed to never go caching…lol Oh, and we came out tick free πŸ™‚ (since i went into so much detail, i will probably cut and past some of this for the log i haven’t done yet πŸ™‚ ) 2 pictures of the guardian (a hognose maybe??) and one picture of me trying to convince him to move along and let us get the cache!)

BBG!! yup, I remember it well….. remember that kid that stripped down to his drawers to jump in the water after the duck?? He is all grown up, starting his 3rd year this month in the USCG as an engineer πŸ˜€ (yeah, proud mama!!) not sure if you met my daughter, she graduated this summer and just got her CNA license and will be starting nursing school next year with the goal of being a nurse practitioner πŸ™‚Β  I told them all their lives that they were my retirement plan, I invested all my money in them… looks like I may have a nice return on my investment…lol!!!

thank you all for the welcome back πŸ™‚ T&B glad to see you are still going strong!

BBG, I may just pm you to pick your brain on the gps, I remembered it doesn’t like chrome and went to IExp, did the firmware update, did the Delorme download, enabled java script, plugged and unplugged everything, restarted it all… and still doesn’t want to download to gps… grrrr

Also, it has been at least a good 3-4+yrs… any good series or muti’s in the burbs that are fun but you don’t get too wet and dirty (a little is fine) and I don’t have my tree climber extraordinaire anymore and my old butt ain’t climbing a tree!! lol Maybe a entertaining Halloween cache??

in reply to: Thread Stealers With Too Much On Their Minds #2051930

OMG how long have i been gone???? trying to load a cache to my gps is a NIGHTMARE!! (try to download to a Delorme pn30 and it says i need a user name and password?? WT*!)

Well, it has been a while since i have meandered the site and forums! hello to everyone, I see Sandlanders is still around and kicki’ Β  I may just be doing a little geocaching this weekend with a birthday girl… wondering what is new and cool over the last few months that i may take her to, maybe something like a Dr. Dolittle cache where we can get out and about and do some adventurous caches that don’t require tree climbing
