Most the night caches I’ve done are mystery caches.

in reply to: "Found It" but didn’t sign log… #1948491

I cache with my 3 year old and 19 month old and there are plenty of higher terrain caches that I’d rather wander close to and call it good, but if I want the smiley I climb, wade etc…or I wait until one of those rare moments when I’m out alone. 🙂

The only caches I haven’t signed a log for were LCG caches where I found a cache container and some swag but no log or cover and didn’t want to add to the junk so I just claimed the find, with photo if the CO wanted, and posted maintenance.

Here is another one that will kill the game….. I just had my 750/150 Milestone Cache published tday. It is in a small wooded lot next to an elementary school. On the Cache Page, it says in caps to not find during school hours. So guess what time the FTF was……. 3:21pm (logged). School there gets done at 3:35pm. GRRRRRRRR!

    Delete the FTF 😯

Well I found out that Mr. S will keep my husband and 10 yr old happy with fishing, but they can’t take a 4 yr old along so I got to keep him happy… really need to have him chat with the KFH littles to give him some pointers on patience and geocaching….

Patience & little hippies – no idea what you are talking about 😆 I just put in ear plugs and drag them into the woods. 😯

The flipside of a poorly written “Found It” is the following:

My daughter and I went to this park today and loved it. It was fun walking around the ruins and taking photos and then there was a really awesome playground with lots of “old skool” equipment 🙂 (metal and wooden stuff that you only saw back in the 70’s and 80’s). We didn’t even bother looking for the actual cache because I’ve learned it is really hard to concentrate on finding one with a three year old constantly yelling, “MOMMY MOMMY, LOOK AT ME!!!” but we enjoyed this cache very much anyway.

I know the rules say you’re supposed to sign the log to call it found, but given the circumstance I‘d be tempted to have them claim it as found. I’ve cached with my girls and can certainly empathize with the situation. Here is a classic case of someone “getting it”, but not finding it.

If that’s the case, I could claim a whole lot more :D…. might need to look up this cacher and see if my 4 yr old can entertain her 3 yr old so we can get some caching done….sheesh….

Definitely the way to do it, the couple of times I’ve been out with other cachers with kids it is much easier keeping the boys happy.

in reply to: A better name for travel bug motels? #1948343

I always try to drop bugs in more difficult caches or less frequented caches; multis, puzzles, LCG candidates. Of course, not all TB owners are happy about that. I had one put their bug up on TB rescue because it hadn’t moved in a month. Can’t please everyone, but at least that way I don’t feel guilty when a bug or coin goes AWOL right after I drop it.

Just announce there are a bunch of FTFs available, that will get everyone out in the woods rain or not. 😉

BTW – I may be looking for some caching partners as my family is more into the camping part than the caching part sometimes. 😀

RT – I’ll probably be running solo or maybe 1 monkey so I’d be happy to head out on the trails with you. Let me add my thanks to everyone involved with getting this going.

When I put out a cache like that I highly recommend doing it at night and 90% of the cachers that find them usually do just that. Also note that it should not be found during rush hour for obvious reasons.
    Less traffic=less of a problem.

True, I found Down the Middle at 2AM and there was no one around. 😀
