Todd thank you for your input. Just take a peek at the cash page which LB7 eluded to be very long that’s due to the fact that there’s many social events going on. The event was very much focused on the social portion. We had games and meet and greets and many other events in addition to the cash bash. It was definitely not just about 66 caches. As a matter fact one of the funnest games that the cashers play is Geo bingo where they meet other cashers to try fill their card by meeting other cachers.

Relating to your concerns about The ecological input, many cashers I spoke to said that they didn’t even run into other cashers on the trails. The cash placements were spread out for a reason. Our committee strives and takes pride in placing caches where the territory can handle that magnitude of people. It’s kind of a Catch-22 because if people in our community hide park n grabs where no environment is damaged, they get hung up to dry. However when cashers put hides out in forests or areas meant for hiking, there is still a negative implied. You can’t have it both ways there has to be some place to put them right?

Caches are archived each year to make room for the new heights, but we also have very creative hiders on board who will utilize and show the people in our event new places and new parks in the area.

I’m not aware of any flowerbeds having been trampled. We learned a lesson on that one on the very first year. The grass that’s been trampled will grow back, I Know it grows too fast at least in my yard. 😉 Next year will be our seventh year and I haven’t seen any severe ecological impacts from six years of cashing prior. As a matter fact I haven’t found many of Prior years caches due to being on the committee, I do go to visit them now, they’re hard to find because the area is back to its natural state. I myself am more concerned about geocaches Placed on high mountaintops in eco-sensitive areas than I would be on a few grassy areas and bouquets of poison ivy here in Wisconsin. Not trying to downplay what you’re saying because I get it, but in reality this is going on all over the world With mega events being held every week. I have a feeling, it is my personal feeling, that we will be looking at a super mega cash icon coming soon.

Hope you come out next year and get to see what it’s really like. I think you will be happily surprised. 🙂

I completely understand your point about the booklet. I brought new geocachers to this event this year myself, and realized that we should have listed the cash type in the book. When they wanted to go get their first cash, it was apparent that it was a puzzle cache and the only reason I knew that was because I was on the committee. I could see how this would be very confusing for first-timers. I also agree that new cash in Regner for first-timers would be an excellent idea. Maybe more than one perhaps a starter series For newbies and also families with small children who don’t want a long hike. The hiders like to hide micro caches and of course there is no place for a stamp in them. I agree Gary that there could be another location for the stamp But then I think the cashers would just avoid the cash and get the stamp. I don’t know the solution to that one yet. One last personal comment I would like to make, is for everyone to keep in mind that Regner is a public park. An abortion truck in the parking lot is out of the control of the Geocaching committee, the chamber, or even the parks department. To suggest we have control over this is really rather silly. This is still the USA and people can demonstrate in areas they choose to in a public place, even though I and many others don’t agree with it. Also the fact of the cash trail that showed up in Newburg is not part of the bash and is put out there for people who enjoy that sort of thing. If you don’t like them don’t do them. No sense picking on cash owners because these are done all over the country. If you have not traveled outside of Wisconsin, you may not know this. The delightful thing about this game is that there are many different types of fun for all to have. If you don’t like one thing do something else. That is why I always look for suggestions for next year. I always get good input here and take it back to the committee. Many of the suggestions here have been implemented by the committee in the past. Regarding the cache page, I agree it’s like reading a big novel. But there is a lot of information to get out and it is a huge event. I’m not really sure how to shorten it. We can look into it next year.

Still looking for your thoughts on a themed Cash bash for next year relating to the number seven. Do you like it, not like it, or have a different idea? I think it would be cute because Geocaching’s could start to make pathtags and/or Geocoins with the theme incorporated into them. I hope there are no major Spelling goofs on here as I am using my voice recognition on my iPhone. Lol!

I am so excited they arrived yesterday…I had to put one out right away! It only took me about 6 1/2 hours to find it again after I dropped my mini pencil… 🙁

They are called T.I.N.Y. caches. You will simply have to watch when you get home!!1

Well dang now that is funny. I would not do it for a ammo can, I would not do it for a small, micro 😯 DEFINITELY NOT! 🙄

I did not read this whole thread so I am not sure if this was suggested. I will now not put one out unless I spend the extra couple of bucks and put a bike lock on it and lock the chain to the tree. I doubt they will go through the trouble of bringing a metal saw along… 🙄

Oh and we do have an ammo can thief around West Bend too, well during the cache bash anyways.

I am pretty sure it is in Spain, I watched the youtube video and there are a few others of the same place and where the trail is broken and falling apart in places. Scary!

Gary, don’t be a wimp, get your bike out and do the trail THAT way. 😯 There are clean shorts waiting for you when you get home…. 😆

Yeah, I might rate it a 1/1 since it is in Lannon/Menomonee Falls area near those tough Amazing Race caches. I think this would be a breeze compared to those from what I have heard! 😉

At one point in time (maybe there still is) there was a high praise for the staus of how many caches you have logged. It may be about the numbers after all in some peoples minds.

For me, this is not a reason, I could care less what my numbers are. The boot I mentioned is in New Port Richey, FL near my sister’s house and I actually did go there – but… I could see it on satellite as well. Being limited with health concerns right now and maybe others who have the same issue, climbing mountains or going on long hikes may not be feasable for some… I’m just thinking that for those people who are physically challenged – it may not be a terrible thing for them to read about it on the cache page and then “visit it” virtually via satellite. Just adding another viewpoint, don’t necessarily agree one way or the other – just thinking of it from a standpoint now of people who may or may not be able to get there whether it is a from a financial or physical standpoint.

I just have a question about this. Not that I am in favor of armchair logging. But… If you can use a satellite image to find say a large boot in a corn field, why is that not the same as standing there looking at it. You still found it right? There is no log book to sign so basically what’s the difference? I know I will never be able to afford to travel to every country that has virtual caches and in a way it might be kind of cool to find them via a satellite image and actually get to see things I have not seen before or will never be able to visit.
