Yep, I went to bat for this thing over there yesterday and basically the “tally-wackers” drove me crazy. I found no “rule” or any banning of logging finds at cache events – so my 21 finds are staying. It would, however, be nice if they came up with a different login icon for event finds, also keep numbers separate, and yet allow you to log them to keep track. At this point, does not sound like that is gonna happen. I laughed too when I read about logging 55! That ought to really stir up the pot – yikes!

I was at Russell’s event, all the temporary caches were fun to find, well planned and he put a ton of work into it. For those of us looking for them, some were easy and some more difficult, but still in my opinion a legitimate find. They were not any different than other finds I have gotten on my own so what is the difference? This was a great chance to socialize, meet other geocachers and pick up tips on great ways to hide stuff (Russell is good at that). If I am in it to get my numbers up (maybe I am and maybe I am not) or if I choose to only do “quality” caches (as some people put it), that is MY choice! I am not hurting anybody am I? Who cares if I get to 1000 caches in 10 years or 2? I think we are all doing it for the fun and for me it is to get my can off the couch and meet new people. Russell, don’t let this get to you, you did a fine job and we all had a blast. I look forward to an event in the fall and plan on logging each and every find. Thank you again.
“ARGH – I know it’s here somewhere…”Hope this is not too late. I have been researching buying a new GPS and have read many complaints about the unit you mentioned. If you go to the groundspeak forums and look under the Software and equipment threads you will find this and other links regarding your unit. This particular link talks more about the altimeter malfunctioning, but seems like the unit as a whole has a few problems. Good luck and I hope this helps!

“ARGH – I know it’s here somewhere…”Congratulations! It was really nice to meet you in Kewaskum. Wish we would have had more time to sit and visit and get to know each other a little more, maybe I can come along with you girls sometime while caching and learn some tricks from the experts!

Those are really neat! I will be ordering some myself. Kids and women are easy to find stuff for in the caches. What kind of items do guys favor? I hid some magnetic key holders, a Christmas light bulb replacement kit, a magnifying glass, but I am looking for other ideas.
Another good idea! I think alot of nonprofit organizations like the Chamber of Commerce of local towns/cities may have things that they would give out to promote tourism in their town as well as fire departments/police departments to promote fire safety, 911 awareness, etc… for kids. Not only is this stuff free, it promotes your town and also educates at the same time.
