No I don’t live in West Allis. The only connection is that I have a cache there. I can refuse him. I think if I accept him then he gets my email address and I may not want that. I am tempted to refuse him but didn’t want to turn off a potential cacher if he is only looking for local help. So I don’t know what to do.

I have a couple I thought I might try. I hope I get them attached right, I haven’t done this before. Which of these do you like the best? I also need to get permission and I forgot the name of the guy standing on the left of the rock. Anyone recognize him?

I got an answer from the property manager at the Milwaukee School system. I was asked to not publish his name but if anyone needs to know I will tell you. I got permission for Hawthorn Glen and the Administration building site. I also asked about schools. If there is anything public at the school or on the grounds you need a permit but we really don’t fall under those rules (I said we would be no where near the building) and so as long as we are discrete and not near the building it would be OK. It is considered public property so we are allowed. I got sort of a; what we don’t know won’t hurt you.

    Thanks
I want to put one in Hawthorn Woods. I was surprised there wasn’t one there (I found one there years ago) and so wondered about the rules.
I also want to put one on the administration grounds.

in reply to: Adding WI-gc code to cache listings? #1875048

I had an existing listing that I tried to enter the banner to. When I checked the HTML box my previously nicely formatted listing went all bonkers. I lost all my formatting work and it was one big paragraph.
Question 1: Is there a way to recover from that?
Question 2: Is there a free HTML program I can use to recreate a format? Nothing fancy, just indents and line feeds where I want them. Anything I have seen (like Word) more than quadruples the size of the file.

    thanks

I didn’t mean near the school building. Besides there is probably no good space near the building. I meant on MPS owned property. The school system own lots of land that is wooded and would make for a good spot far away from buildings.

copied from general to the right forum.
I have had a few emails with Paul. The form is not yet required but he would like to have one on file. I find him willing to approve reasonable caches. The guidelines are still a work in progress and I have given him ideas that I think they will use. I think someone went to the web site and grabbed what they thought good without regard to practicality. We need to have input. However I am not sure if we all should email him or speak as one coherent voice. Either way we should all be of the same opinion. Giving him conflicting messages will only hurt. I did mine before I realized there were so many others involved. He didn’t indicate that he had lots of advice from others. He did seem to like my input. I am glad to share what I said.

Once this becomes SOP I think he will find the job bigger than they thought. I think we as a group can be of help to get the results we would like to see. I think their concern is land abuse, caches getting out of hand or not maintained or abandoned. They would prefer virtual caches to minimize the impact to the land. I think I got him to realize that isn’t going to happen. I think we can help them understand that we can and will place caches in a responsible manner and help police those who abuse the system. One thing they want is a map of all existing caches. I think they will ask us to move caches that are in areas that are too sensitive for a lot of traffic.
