Why someone would take logbooks I have no idea.
However, I would hope that old ones that get replaced would be held on to for posterity. The non-micro ones can have great little stories written in them. But I keep the micro sheets too, just to look at how different people sign in. If cache owners are just tossing them, then why bother writing in them?
Of course I prefer the caches that are somehow memorable. But they often require setting aside a certain amount of time to go do it. I do it when I can, but it’s not all that often.
However, if I see a park-and-grab pop up on my GPSr as I’m rolling along somewhere, I will stop for it spontaneously. I’m sure a lot of other people do too.
And if I’m traveling and want to make sure I pick up the DeLorme pages I’m passing through, well it’s often going to be a quick cache because my time is usually limited when I’m on the road.
Plus, I usually have my kids along I have to figure in the whine potential for any cache and decide if it is worth it.
There has been some delays with getting it right with the mint, so it looks like we will not be able to distribute at the picnic. Sorry. I just got a few of the details on that and was going to announce it after the weekend.
We will be having a sale like we did for the 2005 coin where sales will be open on the website for a certain amount of time, then we will order the number of coins we sold. Hopefully we will have an announcement about that soon.
My cutoff has always been Hwy 10.
On topic: here’s the cache page link ~ GC13E57
I have the box of temp caches and I either need to get it to one of you before I go out of town (Sunday) or else somebody who is going past on I-94 can swing down and pick the box up from my house. Probably one of you on the list from the Milwaukee area should arrange something with me.
lagrac, I have a specific question for you. As a Friend instead of a Member, there are only 4 or 5 differences of which I am aware in your status. These are:
1. Forum title is “Friend” instead of “Member”.
2. Friends are not currently listed on the Members List or in the Stats.
3. Friends cannot vote in the BOD election.
4. Friends cannot become members of the BOD.
5. Referendums can be set up to include or exclude Friends based on the subject being voted on.Other than these specific things, Friends can participate in the organization just the same as Members, including forums, COTM, etc. If I left any other differences out, let me know.
So of these items listed, what exactly are you looking to change by becoming a member?
Updated list:
zuma
Grousetales
FuFu
Hike and Seekers
pcfrog
Hotdogs
lagrac
JeremyThat makes 8 so far. How many people are usually needed?
Ahh – good! Glad I don’t have to worry about it. Wish I could be there with you, but we will still be up at Wildcat Mountain on our camping trip.
Any updates on this? I haven’t heard from anyone.
If it is the 13th, I may not be able to make it as the next day I am headed to get things ready for the picnic and that would be a lot of traveling for me. But I can certainly help to make sure somebody is there.
Let’s be clear here. A referendum is a vote where the people of the WGA (which can include “Friends” depending on how the vote is set up) give their opinion to the board, which may then act upon the results. Do you want a referendum to be held or are you asking the board to make a this change without the input of the membership as a whole?
There are some caches where the challenge isn’t spotting the container, but rather retrieving the logbook. Some of the evil monkey caches come to mind, also zuma’s got one in Eau Claire that is some kind of puzzle box. (GC106FP) In my mind, to earn a smiley, I have to leave proof of my visit inside the cache. Signing the logbook is the most obvious way of course. If it is a soggy mess, I will leave a fresh sheet of paper or maybe my signature item depending on the size of it.
If some chose to not sign the logbook when they visit a cache, that is their perogative. But the cache owner then has the right to delete that online log if they feel like it is the right thing to do. Personally, I don’t usually check the logs much. I’ve had the situation once where someone logged one of my caches online and I knew his signature wasn’t in the log book. I talked to him about it and let it stand because of the circumstances. But I felt I was within my rights to delete it if I had wanted to.
Here is a link to one time that the shoe was on the other foot.
But anyway, logs that are likely “virtual visits” like this spirit guy should definitely get deleted.
Wow! Geocaching “connects the joy in trips with the fun at the government inspection department technology”. Maybe I’ll put that in my sig line. 😆
Lorrie, I always enjoyed getting the personal little emails from you when I did one of your virtuals. I will miss that, but I understand how that can take a lot of time with sooooooo many. Sent an email about these:
GC859C Spirit Quest – War Veteran
GC859A Spirit Quest – Enter and Rest Easy My Buddies
GC8599 Circle of Friendship
Just the one I received in the mail. I did find one in a cache last week, but there was a geocoin there too. I didn’t want to be greedy by taking both so I left it behind.
