Since we don’t have a long drive ahead of us afterwards, I think we could help out some with this.

I would prefer a patch or a pin – something I can attach to my caching hat. I’m much more likely to be wearing that than a t-shirt at any particular event or something. Or they can be attached to backpacks or jackets.
I already have several cool caching t-shirts – I really don’t need another one.
My $.02. (Sorry, I don’t have any actual design ideas at this time.)
Just the other day I was looking through GC.com’s FAQs looking for rules against burying caches, when I spotted this:
“That little logbook may have a hundred dollar bill in it or a map to greater treasure. … Rich people could have fun with their money by making lucrative caches that could be better than winning the lottery when you find it. Just hope that the person that found the cache just before you left a real big prize! “
And I’m thinking, “Yeah, right. Like that ever happens.”
Gee, I guess it does! 😯
07/22/2006 at 5:13 pm in reply to: Green Bay Press-Gazette: Geocachers deny trashing Appleton p #1763842It doesn’t sound too bad to me. Maybe it could have been better, but at least it has good quotes from geocachers.
I did like how the alderman said he has nothing against geocachers, but he left out the part about how we need to “get a life”. 😕
“He said he came to the conclusion that geocachers had trampled the park flowerbed by observing a steady stream of people walking through the park, some poking around in the trees. On two occasions, he said, he noticed someone holding a GPS.”
We all know what happens when you ASSUME something……
Actually, it says the start of the hunt is September 15.
I dunno – it sounds intriguing. After all, I ran all around the state doing caches for both coin quest games. But that didn’t have an entry fee.
This cache was my first DNF two years ago. We finally had a chance to return with greyhounder this summer. We brought mosquito netting hats and we used them for sure! I’ve never seen skeeters that big before.
Found it this time. 😀
And, yes, I’ve recommended this cache to others.“He said one woman dug up some flowers attempting to find the prize.”
Who is this woman and how does he know she’s a geocacher?
Like it was said above, geocaches are never buried and no geocacher I’ve ever heard of would ever dig up flowers.
Good luck with your quest to get to the bottom of this, CB. But don’t just let them lay all the blame on you and your cache without some real evidence. There are lots of other possible causes of the damage such as thieves and vandals.
Thanks for the tip. We are going to be not too far from there at the end of the month and it definitely looks like it’s worthy of a detour.
And what a cool GC number!
07/17/2006 at 5:12 am in reply to: Garmin’s new ‘X’ models; What does ‘X’ add? Is SiRF good? #1763547I was using a 60CS but had the usual troubles keeping a satellite lock under heavy tree cover and in other challenging situations.
I used my mother’s 60CSX at the camp-out and was instantly hooked by the quickness that the SiRF locked on to a signal and just would not let it go! It was very fast and very accurate. So I upgraded to a 60CX and have been real happy with it. It hasn’t lost the satellites once.
I also got a topo chip to use in it. I have found it to be pretty helpful too, but not 100% accurate.
I’ve released 13 geocoins of various kinds. They have all been attached to a card that says they are not to be kept and should move from cache to cache. At this point I have only had to mark 2 as missing – which is actually a better percentage than my regular TBs. I get a lot of gratitude from people when they find them, so I think it has been worth it – so far anyway.
I just marked as missing a geocoin I sent out that traveled over 3000 miles before disappearing in Missouri. Disappointing, but thems the breaks I guess. I have had missing bugs resurface, so there is always a glimmer of hope.
At least with coins, I can understand why some people might keep them. But why do they keep Jeeps and regular TBs??? They’re just cheap toys fer cryin out loud!

I like the idea of only keeping a separate “rescued” tally here at wi-gc. The only case where I think it would be appropriate to log a find is if the rescuer had not previously found the cache to be rescued, they actually find a loggable cache (not the tattered remnants of the logbook or a few animal-chewed McToys), and maybe a picture of the cache is posted to verify the removal.
It’s not even a matter of what the “find nazis” think. Logically, if you go out to rescue a cache and it’s not there, there’s no logical justification to how you can call that a “find”.
It might be nice to have some incremental incentives as well… Rescue five caches, get a WGA bumper sticker. Rescue ten and get a t-shirt, etc.
I agree with Dave on all points.
Wow! I think I might even be able to make it – gotta work some things out.
Can’t wait to see them! 😀
We never miss a chance for pancakes! 😆

It was a perfect day for hitting the trails!
