Glad you could slow down long enough to come to the event yesterday to sit and chat a little. It was nice meeting you!

Oh yeah – congratulations and other pats on the back for your recent milestone!

I’m going to echo Cheesehead Dave here. Variety is the key to keeping it interesting for me as well, although the kids do prefer a cache with swag in it. I like all kinds of caches, but after finding the 10th one of the day that is the same as the previous nine (regardless of whether they’re urban micros or ammo cans in the woods) I’ll get bored and look for something else to do. Not every cache placement can be completely original, but placers could at least try to make a new cache somehow different from the others in the area.

I never counted the counties we have cached in because I never wanted to bother. Now I don’t have to bother! Thanks – I’ll give it a try when I get back home next week.

in reply to: Distressed Cache needs help #1762672

I seem to remember some discussion about coming up with some more formal means of getting distressed caches taken care of. Is that still in the works? Or was that just about getting archived caches cleaned up?

BTW, we were the lucky ones to have first found this cache muggled. I was able to put something back together, but I have no idea where it ws supposed to have been hidden originally. I remember it really needed a new container at the time. Now the owner has posted that he’s going to fix it up this summer. From reading the logs, it looks like what was salvaged last summer is now gone as well. Most unfortunate.

You should have seen the state of my jeans by the end of the day. Bec can attest to the fact that the holes were getting so bad, it was almost indecent. 😳

Hey Mel – that beetle was in the parking area! We didn’t see any of those during the hunt. I doubt any would bother you.

It was an impressive bug tho.

in reply to: What is caching to you? #1762542

When I first started 2 years ago, it was all about the hunt and getting my kids out in the fresh air – seeing nature, getting some exercise.

Now, it is still about those things. But 2 very important elements that I was not expecting have been added:

    1. Visiting really cool places I never knew existed and never would have if it hadn’t been for geocaching. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve just been blown away by where I happen to find myself during the hunt.

    2. The sense of community we share and the friends I’ve made. I was not expecting this at all! And now it has become the most important part of the hobby for me.

    Well, that’s certainly appropriate.

Congrats to the Fu! Sounds like GW4 was pretty awesome. Can’t wait to hear some stories.

    Great job Robin!

I didn’t think anyone could be as driven to cache as your significant other, but I guess I was wrong. 😯 It took me two years to reach 500.

Hope we can touch base again when I’m up in your neck of the woods next month. Ralph said something about getting the kids together for some caching fun.

My son has signed up for a day-long scouting thing that day, so I will have to bow out. Sorry I’m going to miss all the fun.

in reply to: Some Geo-campout geocoins left #1739232

Just wanted to announce that there will be left over coins available to purchase at the June 18th event in Eau Claire (the Sawdust City one).

Everyone who payed by paypal has had their coins sent already (and some have already arrived). I still have a few checks trickling in and packages trickling out.

    There are 100 coins left….
