I made several new cards…and went to place them today…It took me 10 minutes to find stage two and it was no longer where I put it it had migrated to a whole other place…it took me 20 minutes to find stage one…it too had migrated to a much more difficult spot. Frustrating to say the least. But it is good to go now…..

Another of my new caches at the park was also moved to make it harder…but I like the placement so I guess I cannot complain about that one…the coords aren’t quite as tight now but it’s still within 20 feet….

Funny how that happens. I have one cache I have to refind every single time I go to it. Of course it is the only I have in a high muggle area.

    Definitely a dog-friendly park.

If anybody is interested, I will have my personal coins, my MWGB coins, and all my other available coins at the picnic for sale or trade.

    Jen,

If it is part of the ice age trail, maybe the people Renee is working with can help out with that, even though it is in the park. I know it won’t help with getting it up and running before the Picnic, but maybe a thought.

It would indeed be an Ice Age Trail cache. The feature is even indicated on the Ice Age trail map.

Yeah, maybe the nice IAT Foundation lady should be my next contact.

Well, my multiple attempts (4 emails, 2 phone messages, mailing of geocache placement notification form with explanatory cover letter and cache write-up) to get permission from either Ed or Paul Sandgren over the last few months have gone completely ignored, so the new EarthCache won’t be published before the picnic. Sorry, but I’ll keep trying.

I was starting to get really frustrated about this until I thought about it and realized that this spot wouldn’t really be best served by having 200 people traipsing through it in a single day anyway. Not that it’s an overly sensitive area, but it is hidden off trail down a rather steep slope – I’d be afraid of massive erosion.

If people are contacting this person, I sincerely hope they remember that you attract more flies with honey than vinegar. Spewing knee-jerk vitriol at them won’t get the results we are hoping for.

And seriously, I did a cache today that involved climbing a rotten tree. Terrain rating was 2. Lots of people out there who have not idea what they are doing with these ratings. At least it wasn’t a 1. Needless to say, I wasn’t very nice in my log.

Yeah, I’ve run into caches just like this. Some people have the misconception that the terrain rating only applies to what it takes to get to ground zero, and then don’t factor in what it might take to retrieve it.

I wish Groundspeak would do more to clarify how to rate things properly, because it’s really not that hard. The way I see it, the difficulty rating is based on what it takes mentally to find the cache (from puzzle solving to how well it’s camo’ed or a technical hide, etc) and the terrain rating is based on what it takes physically to get the cache in hand (including things like climbing trees of course).

I once did two caches on the same day that were only a half point different in their ratings – both placed by experienced cachers. But the experience of doing the caches were as different as night and day – one was a fairly simple city park micro, the other required a long hilly hike on muddy trails and puzzling things out along the way. There’s just no real attempt at standardization and it annoys me a bit.

    My daily reviewer appreciation.

I could never do it – I’m way too thin skinned.

My Caught Red Handed coin has visited five countries and gone 23,426 miles over the course of 2 1/2 years.

    I hope I haven’t jinxed it now.

Grey means that there hasn’t been any activity on that traveler recently – it’s “stale”. I thought the color changed after one week, but it might be two.

I have it on good authority that Jeff T will indeed be bringing the famous M&M salad.
