Hey – that sure is a nice picture of you there, Bec! 8)
Yeah, I had suggested Rib Mountain because I have never been there and it’s a location we haven’t been to before as an organization. But as Ralph (who has been doing most of the legwork and phone calls, bless him) said, they are going to be lacking the required facilites. Perhaps the tearing down of the shelter means they are going to build a bigger, better one that we can use in the future. Hopefully?
Yes, of course. You can sign up to help at any time – you don’t have to be in on the initial ground level stuff to do it. Waiting to see if the date and location are going to work for you is perfectly reasonable.

I have never seen a clear description of the committee authority, so I’m not sure about this, but I thought with the committee structure for events that the location was now determined by the committee. If the committee were to be dominated by people north of Hwy 29, perhaps the event would be held there.
I’d appreciate clarification from the BOD on this because committee authority is something I’m unsure about.
Perhaps this is a way of both getting the events further north and getting the northern geocachers more involved in the WGA.
Yes, the committee does determine where the event will be held. We solicited for non-board WGA members to join it in our last newsletter, but nobody responded to that. I have now put out a thread in the announcements as well. Here’s the link:

So anybody who wants to be directly involved can post there or PM me. Of course, signing up means you are committing to more than just helping choose a location. 🙂

For urban caches, I usually bring a clipboard along. I can be inspecting everything from playground equipment to bricks (a la Gizfinder’s flash mob event in Appleton last fall). I can also be an arborist looking for bugs that are harming the tree’s.
Yep, I’ve done the clipboard thing too.
Now if an adult actually comes up to me and asks me flat out what I’m doing, I will tell the truth. Most people find it mildly interesting. But if a kid asks, then I lie.

Hee hee! Check out what they got on the background screens.
After hiking to Slough Gundy in the northwoods this weekend, I got 10 ticks off me, and 3 (I think) off greyhounder. I guess they think I’m tastier – or maybe it’s because I went through the brush first.
I’d like to see you out in the moonlight
I’d like to kiss you way back in the sticks
I’d like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
And I’d like to check you for ticks.I like it! Is there a tune that goes with it?

nonono….when you pull up to a playground cache when you are alone, just remember…. your “daughter lost her bike lock key around here” and you are trying to find it…..
Good one! Yeah, I do the same thing. I just walk up and look around like I’m trying to find something I lost. Nobody ever seems to notice me because I don’t look like I’m trying to be unnoticable. Being a petite (read: short) female does help of course.
I like solving mysteries and decoding stuff, but what I mostly enjoyed about these games was the caching – figuring out what caches would fit the requirements and then figuring out how to go get them since it usually involved a trip or two. Remember the first one where we had to attend an event in November and there were only two in driving range – one in Eau Claire and one in Iowa? Good times.
I’ve participated in all four previous games, but probably not this one. I guess I’d rather be caching.

Now I feel bad. All of those innocent tent caterpillars destroyed over the years. Thanks for educating me.
You don’t need to feel bad. Every time I see those icky tent webs, I want to break out the flame thrower.
Now normally I like caterpillars, and even spiders. But there’s something about those webs that just irks me.
It appears that there is a lot of confusion with tent caterpillars and gypsy moth caterpillars. I found a link that compares them:
http://www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7111.html
After googling images of the two different kinds, I suspect that Flickr image is really tent caterpillars. Ugly dudes, but native and not nearly so damaging.
Yep! And I need to get some earthcaches done for sure!
the ever so familiar little moth nests
Can somebody describe them please?
The only things I usually see are those tent caterpillar nests, but those are different beasts. Maybe I’m missing something.
The DeLorme challenge has actually determined where we go on our camping trips. Last summer was Rhinelander, this summer is Bayfield, next summer will likely be someplace in the NE corner of the state. Fill in a couple missed pages here and there along the way……
I have coins for sale, but I don’t have a current list of my “inventory”. I’m always happy to bring them to an event if anyone’s interested. Or contact me if you want to see them and we can set something up.
