HEY FOLKS, THE CANOEING EVENT ON SUNDAY, JUNE 22 IS CANCELED!!!
Sad, huh??? Yep. Floodwaters on the Root just aren’t going down fast enough for a safe event to be held. I still invite people to come to Accordiongal and DOC’s event this Saturday, June 21, at Isinours Unit of the Richard J. Dorer Forest, between Preston, Fountain and Lanesboro. MN. I’ll be camped out there, likely both Friday and Saturday nights (I live sorta close, so it’s EASY for me – LOL!)
Am considering a new date for the canoeing event… will see… Thanks for the support of it!
Campsites are gone, but I do have a little room on Campsite #22… could even fit a small RV. Let me know, anybody, if interested.
lagrac!!! Holy %!$@$@! Ya scared me half to death with the very odd area code phone number!! LMAO~~ I figured some Nigerian was personally calling to have me help funnel money from the country!!!
Glad to hear you’re well. You know Rushford is in rough shape with clean-up, right? Like sewer all over… bad water… etc? Enjoy where you’re at. OR… if ya need a tent… I have plenty! LOL!
And, thanks all, for the info. 😀
GOT CAMPSITES?? For Friday and Saturday? lizs and dryfoot are hoping to find out soon about going.
Fingers crossed! 8)
EDIT: Have campsite #22 for both Fri. and Sat. nights. Hopefully will have a few more people coming with. 😀 There’s only maybe 4 campsites left???
Upon reading the info, looks like this will implement a lot of the same type features I see on the photography sites. Good idea! (shoulda read it first…DOH!)
I am very new to geocaching. I know I was AMAZED this website was run by one individual, FREE. Seemed almost too good to be true. (Now am I to take it that the Jeremy who runs http://www.geocaching.com is also the Jeremy who posts here?)
I’ve belonged to a few photography forums. One you could “see the writing on the wall,” as someone else said. It was a contest site, giving prizes. Soon they wanted money to post a photo entry, their income from sponsors was apparently not enough to make it. Maybe a month or two down the line, BOOM, the site was gone.
I belong to http://www.photo.net and http://www.usefilm.com
Both have started requesting donations from people using the sites and posting photos there (that sucks even MORE bandwidth). They haven’t gone to implementing a fee. At least at Usefilm, you make a donation of a certain amount or more, and you get a free print. On both sites, those making donations have an icon by their name designating them as such when they post. At Usefilm, those who donate can upload up to three photos a day to the site; others can post only one. (People then critique them.)They get “more” benefits because they are members.
Just kind of throwing out a few ideas on how a few other sites handle the fee question. But we all know websites don’t run for free. Now I need to check out the new feature here.
Some pretty crazy ideas here. Interesting!
Ken and Robin, I am not that far from your river cache in the whole scheme of things. I can’t say I know any rules for how you rate a cache. But if you don’t have a boat and don’t have friends who have a boat — so would have to go beg people you don’t really like (LOL!) or go rent a boat — it makes it tough. And I don’t swim either. Live 40 minutes from the Mississippi and have probably been boating three times max in my lifetime. (For area canoeing, I stand at 4x max……)
So I just thought I would relate that yes, that cache might be deserving of a higher rating.
I have mt. biked from Iowa to the main channel of the Miss. south of McGregor/Prairie du Chien… but it always gives me the willies to get out on that ice. Unless it’s been -10 for pretty much the whole month before I go.
Had debated walking ice to try that cache near New Albin. But then I looked at maps and saw a pretty wide channel. And especially with the way it is this (NON)winter, I thought “nope!”
🙂
