I’m playing the GPS game too. I just realized today that I didn’t lose points for looking at clues to get the treasure codes, so I’m way behind in solving the treasures/mysteries. I couldn’t figure out at first where everyone was finding all those codes and racking up all those points. I have lots of catching up to do (not that I expect to be anywhere close to winning this thing!)

I’m not going to get caught up in what has a web page and what doesn’t. Some multi’s are allowed multiple logs, others don’t. In the end, who cares?

What’s the name of the website again, Housebrew something or other?

Obviously many people do care about find counts, otherwise there wouldn’t be
    A. Houseofbrew’s website ranking the top 40 Wisconsin cache finders, and other similar geocache ranking sites and
    B. People coming to the forums asking for the url to such a site.

I fall into the camp of 1 GC.com number = 1 cache = 1 found it log. Padding your Geocaching.com find count with finds that are not Geocaching.com caches does skew the listings – the rankings are not comparing apples to apples. It also throws suspicion on high find counts – did a team really go out and find 6000+ Geocaching.com caches, or did they just log single caches (such as an event) multiple times? If 1 GC.com number = 1 cache = 1 found it log, then there is no doubt about their great count. Allowing multiple finds throws doubt on what their real accomplishment was.

Also, how many multiple loggers protect your PC’s from worms & trojans that steal disk space and cpu cycles? IMO your logging temp caches is the same thing as a worm or trojan, using the Geocaching.com servers to hold and process your non-geocaching.com cache logs. The Geocaching.com servers have enough trouble keeping up with the volume now.

Would you log your Terracaching.com or Navicache.com finds on the Geocaching.com site? If not why not? What’s the difference between logging those finds on Geocaching.com and logging temporary, non geocaching.com caches on the site?

After checking your database, user waypoints, and the baud rates matching, if you still have problems check your NMEA setting. Menu>Settings>NMEA. It should be set to 2.1 or off – sorry I can’t remember which setting is right and I don’t have my Meridian with me to check. I have to switch my NMEA back and forth between the two settings, as one works for loading waypoints and the other works for connecting to my notebook pc and Street Atlas. Good luck getting them downloaded.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll try the DNR website for contact info, since the area I have in mind is a wildlife area, not a park or forest.

    Hi,

I’m a new WGA member, and I was wondering if the DNR policy is official yet or not. The most recent post I could find about the policy was from last June. I have a place in mind for hiding a cache on DNR lands, and want to be sure I do it right. Thanks.
