    Bump

    in reply to: COTM #1956409

I don’t think it has lost its relevance. As a geocacher, I get favorite points a little quicker than I’d like. I wouldn’t say that for every 10 I’ve found that I’ve had a favorite. Sometimes I just needed a fix. As far as COTM, maybe we need to tweak it a little to get more out of it. While the WGA grows and the game changes, some of our toys will change.

    Attended:
    WGA Campout at Hartman Creek
    WGA Pancake Feast

    Helped Out:
Geocaching 101 Class at the West Bend Cache Ba$h

Last year was a low caching year, but that’ll pick up again.

As far as planning the event, I’m afraid I’ll have to “ditto” Labrat.

For the awards: What are they for? Are we having some sort of theme? Are we soliciting donations? How big is the event? Are we the only sponsors?

You can also ask each of us personally if you don’t want to put it on the forums. Send us a PM and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

If you only want to ask one of us, we do have our own sections in the Candidates Corner.

PS Be sure to vote, there’s only a week to go.

Way to go guys! It was nice seeing you again on Sat.

I would say that I am personable. Whether some one likes me or hates me, they will still talk to me.

in reply to: WGA Promotion #1955985

When it comes to promotion, I feel that it comes down to the membership at large. We’ve already branded ourselves, so now it comes down to people showing the brand. We enjoy caching, we enjoy talking about caching and sharing the company of fellow cachers.
I’ve dragged a few people into hobbies I enjoy. As such, most of the people who know me won’t tell me that they’re bored unless they want to try something fun (or at least fun for me). That is some of the best promotion any group can have. Sometimes it doesn’t work, but most of the time people enjoy things that their friends enjoy.

This is a tough one, as I plan on voting for several people. I suppose I’ll vote for labrat for two reasons that I’ll bring up. There are many reasons I vote the way I do every year, but I don’t want to tell you all of them.
Reason 1: He’s fun to pick on.
Reason 2: I trust the guy.

Wizards of the Coast announced earlier this week that they are working on 5th edition D&D.

1: Actively recruit out-of-staters? Probably not. Let them in? Most definitely. We’re a group that promotes caching in Wisconsin. If people from other states find that caching in Wisconsin is a highlight for them, let them come.

2: WGA Friends playing the LCG and doing Cache Rescues? Sure, why not? If they’re willing to help us keep up the caches in Wisconsin, let them. Besides, they can bring a little spice to the LCG competition.

No kidding, he’ll probably do it more often.

in reply to: Do you have what it takes? #1955099

Thank you for reminding us of the commitment it takes to be on the board.

This has been something I’ve been pondering since I found out someone nominated me. At this point, all I can say is, if I come to the conclusion that I won’t be able to handle the position effectively for the entire term I will withdraw my candidacy.

I appreciate the insight, and would definitely consider any more tidbits you may pass along.

This depends a lot on the person who has expressed the disinterest.

Regarding the issue of relevance: We, the individuals who read/post here, determine whether it is relevant to ourselves. I mostly read and sometimes post on here, because this is where some of my friends are hanging out. Members have expressed quite a bit of pride regarding the fact that we have an active forum where someone can post and have a response the same day. I know this wasn’t exactly your question, but I felt it should be remarked on.

Now to your question: I wouldn’t necessarily discourage them from further reading, but I would remind them that the forums are not compulsory. We are a group of people that share a hobby/sport/addiction/what-have-you, so this should be fun. You don’t have to read the forums all day every day…take a break…go caching…if you have concerns, bring them up…we’ll be here if you want/need us. If you choose to sign off for a little while you will be missed, but if/when you come back we’ll be here with open arms.
