I got tired of writing up a request every time I placed a new EC so I decided to post it on the boards this time so I’d have it handy and also so that others could modify it for their own use.

Re: Use of real Perms….I would use temps. I think if the park is interested in setting up a class of sorts it would also be OK with the set up of a few temps which would be allowed to stay in place. Granted then these hides would not be listed on GC to use for demonstration purposes, but you could always make a mock up (on paper) of a real GC page with the temp information substituted for the location of an actual geocache. I’d hate to see your Perms go AWOL.

“Ultimategeocaching.net” has one cache on it, so at first I thought it was about as useful as terracache or navicache, but after reading their one and only caching “story,” I’m not so sure:

One of the most famous geocaches was of such substance that the most militarily powerful nation in human history (therefore intellectually self-impaired) started a war to find the cache, slaughtered thousands, destroyed city water, sewage, electricity, transportation, housing, hospital, schooling, food and commerce systems in several cities, and without finding the cache, continued the war at cost of hundreds of billions of dollars, the lives of more cannon fodder, the failure of its military veteran medical services system, and is preparing to extend the war to another neighboring country. That is the effect of geocaches, even the illusion of them. Iraq Saddam Hussein’s illusion of hidden Weapons of Mass Destruction will go down in history as the geocache that fooled the American fools into their government’s belated self-demise, much to the amusement of the observers. When the US government leader Vice President Dick Cheney and his Side Kick George Bush attack Iran, in pursuit of a nuclear geocache, the results will facilitate historians recording the fact that Saddam will have by that process defeated the clueless George Bush and the US military industrial empire.

I was being sorta funny. This new caching site seems a little……odd…..

I had fun in the rain and snow this morning and despite the weather still found 22…while the rain made my hair wet and crazy looking and my pants wet and muddy, a good time was still had.

“OK this was an adventure…I had my new waterproof hiking boots on but as the boardwalk started AFTER about a 20 foot long puddle of water which was up to a foot deep I thought better and got on my tall rubber boots! So off I go through the water only to see the floating boardwalk under about 3 inches of water….making the walk VERY slick. But I continue along anyway…until I see a tree has crashed down on top of the boardwalk. There the water is about a foot deep and the boardwalk has sustained some damage. I climb (carefully) over the tree and get on my merry way and now the boardwalk is getting deeper and deeper underwater until I’m in about 1 foot of water ON THE BOARDWALK. I come to a spot where the water is deeper still but I had gotten that far so I decided to go for it…bad move the board walk was heavily damaged and I wound up falling into the water up past my knees…my boots were full of water and sloshing as I walked back to the car. However, the day was not a loss as I plan ahead with a full change of clothes….which I got into Right in the parking lot. Thanks for the Cache…I wish I could have logged a found.”

…or if you copy the page to a Word doc and make it the way you want it to look then send the doc to me I could transfer it all to HTML for you (the way you want it to look) and send you the code…let me know. I’m home after 1pm today….and I don’t mind helping with any updates you need to add later on.

…just like in caching it’s not quantity…its quality. Stop in any time.

Also are the EC coordinates to be ON the IAT or accessible from the IAT within a defined distance?

    As an FYI:
    1. Trail heads and actual location of trails will be needed. I’m not familiar with all the locations of the IAT and would like to get detailed maps.

    2. There are no doubt several worthwhile features not listed in this thread as well so some exploring may be in order.

    3. I’m currently working on one EC and three more with other folks in tandem in various stages of completion from nearly complete to not yet started, so it will be at least a couple weeks until I can seriously begin writing up more (it normally takes me several days of research and writing to get the details down for each EC then the travel is additional time).

My suggestion for the program is for the roll-out to be at minimum 6 months out so that time is given to develop good ECs rather than just having them created for the sake of creation and therefore falling short in quality…which is the LAST thing we want to do. Quality, Quality, Quality.

I emailed a request to do:
    Lodi Marsh
    Oconomowoc River
45 parallel – (there is already a EC on this subject so the area on the IAT would have to be very special to necessitate a second on the same subject)…
