Potential Earthcache sites along the Ice Age Trail
List #1
….Oconomowoc River….Oh I so need to have that feature 😈

Existing Earthcaches that may be on the Ice Age Trail
I am thinking most of these are Lostby7’s .. …we would like to ask the cache owners if they would be willing to link to the IATCC project by updating the cache title “IATCC”. And, to include the Cold Cache logo with wording just as soon as we have that finalized.
GC150BF The Niagara Excarpment: Brady’s Rock
GC17739 Scuppernong Marl Pits
GC18MJB Powder Hill: Kame and Kettle
GC1A9G5 Parfrey’s Glenn SNA #1
GCZC69 Greenbush KettleAnd, yes, I had mentioned this project to Lostby7 way back when I was first asked to be part of it .. so I am pretty sure he will.
I own the bold and I expect to list them as requested once I get the final details and they are reasonable…

The following is a proposed program for people who go out and log the Ice Age Trail Cold Cache Earthcaches. It will be some time before this is fully developed .. so just a preview here ……
As I currently own almost half of the EC’s on the Ice Age trail at the moment and plan to create several more, I have to wonder if owning an EC qualifies as a “Find” as well?

Dolly will be seeking IAT volunteers for their assistance next weekend.
What would be involved?
…and make the GPS a little smaller
I think to meet the EC guidelines however we would still need to make a more adult version on the same page as well….it would be no different than the required dual language EC which is required when ECs are published in non English speaking countries…
RULE #2 for submissions:
“EarthCache sites must be educational. They provide accurate but simple explanations of what visitors will experience at the site. Cache notes must be submitted and assume no previous knowledge of earth science. The educational notes must be written to a reading age of an upper middle school (14 year old) student. Avoid direct plagiarism from web sources and quote sources of information where appropriate. Additional technical or scientific notes can be provided for the scientific community. Please note appropriate place on the submittal form for the technical notes. All notes can be submitted in the local language but must also be in English.”Rogheff
I guess de-listing a bunch of your GC caches and listing them on the other sites will bring exposure to the other listing sites. I’m really bummed you pulled them though as several of them were on my to do list. I just don’t want to play on those other sites. 😕I like that idea as well and will take that into consideration on all future placements…I may add a “Children’s Section” to my pages where appropriate…Oh I so love this cachetype; but then I think that is already well known.
I’m glad the prize structure has spread out…I’m looking forward to finding ALL of the new ones. 😛 😛 😛

How about I share the Ice Age Trail sites with you first .. see if there are any you want to develop before the others jump in?

Oh please like we’d grab them up….OK we might 😛 I can’t wait to dig into some books and do some learnin’ an writin’
OK I have learned quite a bit about limestone and kilns so I want to place one….perhaps two Lime Kiln ECs in the state. The first is written and awaiting approval from the parks folks in Grafton at Lime Kiln Park…hopefully I will hear something soon. Basically I mirrored the Lime Kiln cache I have in Iowa but I have since also added much more information. I have already updated the Iowa cache with much of the added information; I felt I was shy a bit of geological information so I dug some more up.

You don’t have to ask to get sponsored. I get requests all the time (through the system). Usually, when I log on to offer sponsorship, they already have 2 or three offers.
They must have changed this, when I first got an account two years ago thats not how it worked. Now I understand why when I logged into the site the other day I got sponsorship emails the very next day without asking.
Either way I still think the sponsorship is a big turnoff and completely pointless.
Same thing happened to me I haven’t visited the site in almost two years and then about two weeks ago I visited and the next day I had about 10 offers of sponsorship….still I don’t like that I need to have sponsors.
Here is Wisconsins version of the same feature:
(Bicentennial Rock)

I agree we need to keep our EC’s top notch!
I hope Wisconsin can set a great example of what EC’s should be like.I was sitting here paying bills and jamming to mp3s and your interview popped up so I got to listen to it again…OK I may or may not have skipped a bit of it and eventually got back to some hard rockin tunes. You did way better than I could have and my minor was in communications. I’m a poor public speaker.
No more Mr. Nice Guy…4 of the 5 people who logged my Iowa EC have not met the very simple requirements : wrong answers…photos not matching requirements…I’m frankly disappointed. I wont be placing another EC in Iowa. I have given the last two finders a two month deadline to get the required photos uploaded…from here out there will be a lot less nonsense on that one allowed. 👿
Renee any chance you could talk the foundation into donating a few of the new Guidebooks to prolific EC placers?
From the IAPTF website:
20 Mar 2008
New guidebooks now available for preorder
Given all the wonderful new Ice Age Trail segments built or re-routed over the past few years by IAPTF volunteers, it was about time to update the Ice Age Trail Atlas and the Ice Age Trail Companion Guide. The fully revised editions of both books are nearly ready, with an estimated ship date of April 22nd, 2008! -
