I’m looking forward to helping out….But now that there are incentives proposed I will be tougher on the cachers actually meeting the logging requirements for those ECs along the trail. So far in Iowa only 1 of the 4 who have logged my EC have fully met the posted requirements. I’m happy to say that of my 10 ECs in Wisconsin I think I have had three slightly off logs which I was still able to accept in good conscience and one which I had to delete. WTG Wisconsin!

To the BOD. Please re-consider your approach to coming to a new logo design. If you are intereseted in having me persue logo options, I guarantee, 100%, that neither you nor the vast majority of Wisconsin geocachers, will be disappointed.
First, thanks for submitting a great logo design!
Second, I also think it is wise to consider designs from professional graphic artists and/or obtaining professional help in “cleaning up” the logo ideas submitted by members. One site that has been kicked around in the Board forum is 99designs.com. Through this site you can solicit logo concepts from numerous artists. The catch is you have to choose a winner and pay that artist a small fee.
What do others think? Is it fair or right for us to obtain our logo from a professional graphic artist rather than a WGA member? Should we pay someone (potentially hundreds of dollars) for a new logo?
I agree SS has a great design…the best yet offered. I totally think the time line is WAY too short and there is no reason why we need to have a Member submit the design. Not sure how much we should pay to get a new logo though…
Way to represent. ๐

I’ve always liked WGA’s stance as a maverick among the sheep who blandly follow every gc.com dictate…
Oh that does make it sound “funner” to keep logging the way we have in the past.
Still…I wonder what rank I’d have in the state if everyone played with the same rules…sure numbers “Don’t count” but I’m a numbers guy; I count stuff for a living. I record every detail of each and every mile I ride on my bike. Anal? Yes. I think that many of us are flat out obsessive compulsive and that is in part what makes this such a difficult issue to get past. Take the cadence counter off my bike and I’d still ride but I’d enjoy it a whole lot less…take away the speedometer and I might not ride at all. I see logging temps in much the same way…people who log them are used to logging them and enjoy that part of the game. Taking that away is really hard to “cope” with. It seems simple but it’s a behavioral issue and those are always difficult to modify.
My first Iowa EC (that I placed that is) GC1AV4A
Zuma I’m sure whatever you wrote (I petered out half way through your post) is the same opinion I share.
That is a good Idea Marc…I can’t tell you how many times I have told noobs about wi-geocaching.com having nice cards made up would be cool to give out (or even leave in geocaches).
I have “GPS” and “Geocache” stickers on my car but to be honest that makes it a target for thieves as GPS units (car type) are the latest smash and grab sensation for punks.
I read a informational page about plats and the companies that publish them intentionally make errors to “Protect their copyright.”
http://www.sco.wisc.edu/maps/platbooks.php
…some commercial firms have made it a policy to insert “intentional” errors into the plat books to protect their copyrights, claiming only 85-90% reliability. Thus, while these maps are sufficient for many general purposes, they are not adequate for detailed use requiring high accuracy or current information.
so what is the point of platbooks in the age of GPS?
You may want to integrate some of Passing Wind’s information as well. He posted a very nice thread on the same subject in this section.
…just leave out the personal achievements (leaving the most active Earthcachers as contact references would be OK though)….
EDIT…I see you already did this.
Nice addition and well written.Oh no! I had not even thought about checking yet….

Thanks Gary for setting the bar so high. Can’t wait to get an excuse to travel and log some of yours. Well done on all your achievements in the area of Earthcaching!
Thanks. I’m really happy with 9 of my 10 current EC’s….
…as for achievements we have a couple WI cachers with over 100 EC finds! Digital Dan and DaBunnyFufu each have stellar numbers on this cache type.
While catching a few EC’s in Iowa this past week I found another spot that really really needs an Earthcache. I was driving past and a roadside sign and structure caught my attention and I had to stop and check it out….I got home and found that there was three real geocaches already there (two within 600 feet of the place I took coordinates for a possible EC) I’m still waiting for approval on that one but I don’t imagine too many WI cachers will make the trip for it.
If you are looking to do my best Earthcaches go do Rock Elm GC16KZC , Parfreys Glen GC1A9G5 and Natural Bridge GC1A9G8 . I think of the ones I have placed those are the most unique and beautiful.

Will the WGA Camp out ever be held in Patterson Park or Amnicon Falls Park or Copper Falls State Park? Very, very unlikely cuz the Majority of the people that play this game are down south. That will always be true.
Or Until a UWGA is formed.Sorry for the off topic…I agree that it is unlikely but Door county where one WGA event was held isn’t exactly down south so never say never.

Please know that I have no problems with any of the other GPS activities — I think anything that gets you outside and active is a good thing.
But do remember that this is the Wisconsin GEOCACHING Association, not the Wisconsin GPS ACTIVITY Association. This website is devoted to those who use the gc.com guidelines at this time.
That’s not to say that we couldn’t ever expand our horizons into other GPS activities, we just wouldn’t be the Wisconsin Geocaching Association anymore.
I really, really hope some of the other sites are not putting caches near railroad tracks. Not only is it a safety issue, it is also tresspassing.

So does this mean that WGA is just an extention of Groudspeak?
I would think no, it just means it’s easiest to concentrate on the most recognized and used website’s rules and resources.
