Great logo SS but I do think the Chicken Shack might have something to say about it. I thought about designing a logo as well but I have “that” software on my other computer…and I was lazy. I’m not sure where I fall on this topic either. I guess I will continue to see how this develops.
Congrats on #600. i think as part of a payback to the geocaching community for placing caches you could offer up a hint for a puzzle at each milestone….. 😉

Just got back from scouting another earthcache possibility near Baraboo, and the email came back that we’re A-OK. I’ll need a couple days to finish the write-up, but hope to have it “live” by the weekend. This is one that is definitely at its best right now!
Uh oh… I think we need to compare notes as I have two written up save for coords around Baraboo…will send PM

$ and 50 caches is a HUGE draw already. Perhaps a promise that the prizes are not for FTF’s would go a long way as well as that seems to cause nothing but CHAOS.
To be honest there are a great many tents out there that are decent…I have a couple of really nice tents and last year I set up in the wrong spot and we were totally flooded out. There was literally half of an inch of water running through one side of the tent all night.
So…first get a decent tent and second be VERY aware of the placement of the tent; look for slopes and dips in the area and place it with the assumption that it will rain and rain hard.
I will be visiting your mound EC in a couple weeks 😛 so WOOT too that.
I have found in placing 7 of my current 8 EC’s that the land managers have had no reservations about the placements and really liked the idea of the Earth Cache as both a way to get increased traffic and provide an educational experience for the visitors.
The one which I had difficulty in placing was due to the area being potentially dangerous. Now to get this approved by the land manager I had to compromise quite a bit and provide ample warnings on the cache page that the area is potentially unsafe if the trails were left. I think in most cases this should not be an issue as we as responsible EC placers would not (at least I hope not) place caches in areas of unreasonable danger.
A couple of my EC’s are also in SNA (State Natural Areas) which require special approvals. Even in these areas the park management have been very agreeable to the placement of EC’s. I think the bottom line is that we need to carefully think out the path the visitors will take and what tasks they need to complete; the visits required by us should cause the least amount of impact to the area as possible. If we can be successful in that endeavor, I think we go a long way in streamlining the approval process and the comfort the park management has with the placement.
I too have two more EC’s in the final stages of completion…at least one of these is in an SNA so I will remember to take extra care to make sure that the visitor makes as little of an impact as possible.

I heard once that there is this magnetic container you can stick to your car with keys in…not sure what it’s called though.
Ya know what thou…..they fall off! I know of a few people that has happen to and also a good way to get you car stolen. Think about it. How many people put an extra key under the door mat or above the door. Not an original idea for a placement.
I know…I was just funnin’ I actually carry a spare in my pocket just in case while caching.
I’m looking forward to coming…we have lots of tents and are buying a pop-up this spring…we just don’t have a car that can pull it yet 😕 So chances are we will be showing up with a tent.
I heard once that there is this magnetic container you can stick to your car with keys in…not sure what it’s called though.
Great news!
Finally a great big event that doesn’t require a 6 hour drive to get to.
THANKS!!!!…and two $500 prizes or even 4 $250’s would be my choice.
I already do this..for many reasons including opening areas and due to volunteer trails.
Personally I have several puzzles (several of which I have archived) which are easy. They are meant to be easy. If tours were to pass through I’d surely welcome the traffic, but I also have a few puzzles that I feel are clever and unique; those puzzles are the ones which I’d like to have logged by only those who have done the work and can fully appreciate my hides….which are which? There is no way for people to know which puzzles are dear to my heart and I understand that.
As I said I allow latitude in the way in which people play the game. People can play the way they wish and a little disappointment about the way in which someone has come to log my cherished puzzle caches isn’t going to kill me.
