Yep there are two geocaches on the property…I’m thinking there may not have been permission for those to be placed? Yes there was an injury there and they are very nervous about “giving permission” formally for anything there at this point. I had to follow some very strict guidelines to gain approval from them. I can understand their position …without plausible deniability things are much more difficult.
I would have dropped this issue weeks ago but I really feel that this is a must see spot; places like this are the reason many of us go geocaching in the first place.
I got the official OK just now from the county (after one final omission from the original page); I will be submitting to the Earthcache folks this afternoon! 😛
Finally making progress on this….I think I may get permission…..I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
That is awesome WTG Emma!

Hey Gary,
Now that you are a Platinum Master, have you gained the ability to polymorph? It’s not quite the same thing as being a Jedi but I do feel like I’m more ONE with the universe now.
Some people just suck….more likely it was just a bear with some hand tools….or a raccoon; I understand they are quite bright…no I think the raccoon could have just opened it unassisted.
I have had stuff pillaged as well. I set out a cache that played music only to have the recorder go missing after about 7 visits…I guess we all just roll the dice and hope for the kindness and honesty of others….most people are good…and some are mostly good with a bad day of evil doings thrown in to remind them that they are not perfect.
Great news all around! Congrats to the officers and I’m glad to hear that there will be some reporting in the future. 😛
Platinum Earthcache Master
Visit and log twenty (20) or more Earthcaches in five (5) or more states/countries and have developed three (3) or more Earthcaches.
As those are the requirements, you are qualified by number of finds and states/countries already…you just need to place a third Earthcache and you are in business as a Platinum Earthcache Master as well. Woohoo: if you place another one and submit the info to http://www.earthcache.org/ they will send you a shiny pin…oooh Shhhiiinnny!looks like they have changed our forecast to 1-2 inches…but that is still on top of the foot and a half that is already on the ground.

Trekkin’ did a little caching between here and Oshkosh, and was confronted in many places with knee deep snow. So…..
What’s the snow cover like around Stevens Point and to the east of there?
Where are the winter friendly caches on page 37 of the delorme? That’d be places like Jefferson, Lake Mills and Johnson Creek. I have Friday off and that hole on our map is bugging the heck out of me, but I know the area has tons of snow. If I drive all that way down there, I want to be able to claim more than a couple caches. Thanks.
We are looking to get up to 8 inches of snow in the Jefferson Waukesha area tonite..you may want to hold off till spring.

Gary,
Congratulations! I hope you got the other earthcache nearby, The Weeping Wall. In many ways, I thought that one was even more impressive, but they both are well worth a winter visit.Thanks.
Yes I did catch the other Earthcache as well but the Punch bowl to me was breathtaking. The ice was so blue! It really shouldn’t be missed…just be careful on the stairs and the slopes! Thanks guys.
35 Earthcaches in 5 states…and oh the sights!
Along the way to MN I found one of Lagrac’s Earthcaches (Black’s Ravine Earthcache GC19696 ) which I recommend to anyone who want’s to see something really cool (winter might be the best time). Here is a pic:

Congrats on the Platinum, Gary! I see we were crossing paths in a couple spots yesterday. We just got our Gold, and only have to do some earthcaches in Illinois to go Platinum. I keep trying to talk Trekkin’ into heading out west for that last state, but he’s not buying it!
Has anyone here ever looked at the caching possibilities on Mackinac Island? There are like 57 caches, 7 or 8 of which are earthcaches. I think we have to do an early summer trip that way! Or maybe burn a couple personal days in the spring to get there before the crowds.
Thanks for the congrats…and the same to you for going Gold….I really liked GC12FE3 in IL…
I also noticed we were crossing paths with each other this past weekend so too were Team Honeybunnies.
As for Mackinac Island I did one or two there this past year…nice caches but there is only so much time to Geocache there as there is so much else to do….like bike around the island….Holy cow I just looked at the island…wow did it ever explode with new caches and like 8 Earthcaches…I may need to make a return visit….
I did a number of these caches this weekend and I must say that you all did a great job on these hides. I hope you place some more next year as well… 🙂
The builder is still pretty much a joke; most people will not have a clue how to build one of these. I got about 3/4 of the way through one and threw in the towel. I’m not sure this is intended for mass use…at least not yet. It really sounds more like a commercial venture on their part in which they create these programs for private buyers…perhaps they offer the builder to us as a means of getting just a few made by the programmer types out there just so GC can say, “see there are all these people out there with this technology, you NEED this for your park too…and for a low price we’ll build it.” Not that there is anything wrong with that, it just seems like if they really wanted this to be a tool for us to use for caching they’d make the WherIgo builder usable to those with something less than a collage degree in computer programing.
