If the WGA were to have a community service project what would it be? In an effort to weed out the simple answers I am eliminating CITO and Invasive species control from the table. What else would you like to see the WGA involved with?
You take all the fun out of a good simple and easy answer…
Well to be honest I don’t think we need to be looking much further than what is currently being done. While I know you have taken CITO off the table, I will just say that if that was still on the table that would be my answer. We are not a large corporate entity, we are just a small group and we should stick to helping in the areas we are most akin to which for us involves the parks and their care.

LOL…nice.
I DNF’d a Cracker Barrel cache…does that mean my dignity is still intact or do I lose points for trying?

Yep I have no doubt that if directly asked your smiling WGA BOD will answer your query. I think that more often than not (and I know I am guilty of this) people assume that just because a subject is floating around on the forums it has gotten the attention of the board. This I’m sure is not always the case. If we have questions or suggestions they need to be directly asked of the BOD in an email in order to assure it will get addressed. I think doing so would go a long way in resolving nagging questions we hold about what is going on with a particular subject.

That’s fine so long as you don’t place any more in my neck of the woods…..
Now that could be taken as a challenge!
I’m “challanged” enough thanks.

Well as I have not been on the BOD yet, I really can’t speak as to what really goes on in the BOD forums or what is or is not voted on. My assumption is that these things were discussed…
A big part of the agenda this year I think for all candidates is for the WGA to begin to publish meeting notes and vote results. This is really important to the membership as we as a group will be able to see what is really going on. I too have made several suggestions to the BOD and I have no idea if they were discussed or not or why my ideas were shot down.
So, what would I do to change this? I would work to get some better disclosure to the membership about BOD votes and discussions. That said I’m sure I’m not alone in this stance as this is an aspect of the organization that has been overlooked until recently and now is time to remedy.
Once we get some better disclosure we can work as membership to question the decisions made by the BOD. We will be able to ask, “Hey board member X what were your reasons for turning this proposal down?” Disclosure is a big part of moving forward as an organization. We might in fact find that some of our great ideas weren’t so great after all.
….let me also add that as it has been stated already, getting a good set of meeting notes can be a daunting task as most of the business conducted by the WGA I imagine occurs in the form of multiple and ongoing online discussions. That being the case reporting the minutes becomes much more difficult than if there were say a weekly or monthly meeting. So while I’m sure the WGA will make an attempt to get more information out we as a membership need to also be understanding about the difficulty involved in reporting.
Awesome well done. I think I will have to be on the official no list for this project though as I still can’t hammer out my plans on that weekend.
I’m not sure if anyone noticed this notice on the Event page: “Licensing of the MWGB logos or name trademarks must be arranged prior to production and may include cash payment or donation to the auction of 10% of the retail value of produced items.”

What will YOU do to open these areas (such as SNA’s) to geocaching?
To be honest, there will always be places that are off limits and I’m OK with that so long as most areas are still open. For those not aware of the history of State Natural Areas, geocaches were banned and removed some time ago. I believe it was Tie’s pet project (while on the BOD) to get us let back into them. I applaud the work he did as I now have a few Earthcaches in them.
If one feels strongly that there is something in an SNA that they want to share there is still a way. There is always a way. Currently we are allowed (after gaining permission) to geocache in SNA’s. We are just not allowed to leave a marker or container there. That said we can still have a multi-cache with the coords in the SNA directing us to an object from which we derive our coords (questions answered about a site help determine the next or final waypoint). We can still have Earthcaches and puzzles as well. These sites are not off limits they are just restricted zones where extra permissions are needed and our physical containers need to be placed off site.
So long story short, at least in terms of SNA’s there is nothing that needs to be done to open them, in regard to other areas, those would need to be addressed on a case by case basis.
How about some winter time WGA events so that schmucks like me can easily attend?
You have my vote on that one…two events a year seems to me to be two few…however, to stage another event or two throughout the year I think the board would have to have a solid commitment from the membership to help with more of the details. Perhaps a better idea is to have the event yourself and ask for an assist from the WGA.How much TIME do you have to devote to the WGA?
I do so love the easy ones. I have as much time as it takes. Again if I feel the cause is worthy it gets my full attention. What are you going to do to keep politics from spreading, and ruining this sport that we all love so much?
Well this morning I met with Jeremy and K0rpl and we spoke briefly…there was no tension in the air; we were smiling, shaking hands and enjoying each others company. None of us were overly worried that we needed to plot, plan and defeat each other. We recognized that no matter what the outcome, the BOD would continue to move in a positive direction, in part because this election has brought up so may good questions and really forced all of us to look at how the organization operates.I guess this election could be more serious than those in the past but I think a good part of that is due to the fact that everyone was fairly sure that the board members up for reelection would pretty much get the votes they needed to be reelected. Now the membership has grown as has the pool of candidates…there is bound to be some more “political stuff.”
But to specifically answer you question: I in all honesty do not see the politics of the BOD ruining the sport. What the DOB does is make the sport if anything more fun. The job of the BOD is to deal with the political BS so you do not have to. The WGA got us back into State Natural Areas (conditionally) and had gone to great strides to get things such as the $10 Brown county fee shot down. They are working all the time to make sure that this sport even remains in the state as we know it.
So if there is some politics and even some BS politics, I’m not so sure that’s a bad thing as we don’t want a board who is ineffectual in its ability to deal with the bureaucracy of local, state and even federal agencies.
