Sorry I will stop sending those emails….. 😳

My first find was an Ammo-can halfway up a sheer 50 foot cliff. Needless to say I thought it was the coolest thing ever. After 1,300 finds some of the newness has worn off but as the hides are always evolving and some are so truly unique, there is plenty to still have you coming away with a “Wow.”

Geoaware must have thought you looked shady…I have had no issues even with mine being less than 528 in some cases. I sure hope yours is winter friendly…hint hint.

    Welcome to the boards LDove.

While I am NOT an approver, I do not believe this is an issue as there is no container. The 528 rule (if that is what’s at issue here) should not apply. Could just be a mistake?

Was the email from Geoaware or one of our local folks?

I have found an Earthcache within 10-20 feet of a traditional cache.

Ya know I read the GSAK 101 document which tells about how to use the program and about some the of features…..and I honestly don’t get it.

I open my PQ’s into my mapping software and can see where all the caches are and I select my route from there. Granted I need to look up each cache and read the information to get text details written by the owners and to read the past couple of logs; the rest of the information is already there in my mapping software(at least the most basic of information like coords and cache type)……

I’m sure I’m wrong about this based on all the raving about the program, but unless you have a Palm to use along with this program I don’t see the advantage of it. But again I think what I really need is for someone to show me how I’m clearly misinterpreting the information this program shows. If I could figure out how to get the info from say 12 caches on one page quickly and easily that would be enough to make the program pretty nifty for me….and I understand that that is possible….but there is still just too much I don’t understand about it.

Some day I’ll make it to one of those classes that will show me light.

    What do I want?
Well as I already bought myself a new computer and updated my mapping software, I guess I would have to ask the ol red dude for a NEW Palm, private GSAK lessons and for him to arrange for about 20 new Earthcaches to be placed around the state.
(Santa I really haven’t been good but at least I wasn’t caught being bad.)

Ummmmm……Can anyone else hear those crickets? Time to crawl back into my tech-free cave.

I heard the crickets about 12 seconds after I opened up GSAK and saw lots of “Stuff.” Too much stuff, too many shiny….no like shiny.

Great pic….looks Photo-shopped but still it made me smile.

I run GSAK on my laptop and the laptop’s OS is Vista and it seems to run OK.

Ah Windows….I had to do a restart and now it will open 🙄

It might be another 1000 caches before we figure it all out, though.

LOL…same here….I say this as I’m even now downloading it again (this time to my new computer). I decided to give it one more shot. I don’t have a working Palm but I would like to get all those 10-12 caches on each page automatically rather than by writing it up myself. I cache with cliff notes at the moment with about 10 caches per sheet of paper but it takes hours to plan a trip of 30-40 caches.

EDIT …let me say this, it is not starting very well as the initial GSAK splash screen will not go away and the old thinking cursor is working overtime…in other words the program will not open. I wonder if it is Vista compatible?

Well as it turns out I am off all next week……I will for sure be knocking down a couple / few. Earthcaches…..I may wait until the snow melts for the longer trips though as I want to also get in some film cans along the way (oh crap did I say that out loud)…I mean ammo-cans deep deep in the woods.

If you are a serious cacher, GSAK is a necessity. It is well worth the $30 price tag.

I’m rarely serious, but I have managed to find over 1,300 without GSAK. I think I need to sit down with someone and have them tell me exactly what I’m missing….Frankly I just don’t get it.

Then again, before I saw an auto routing GPS (thanks Bec) I had found 500 caches with a non-mapping unit. Mapping has changed everything about the way I cache and has saved me hours and hours or driving down the wrong roads so perhaps GSAK has the same improvement to offer me….

So this is the kind of thing people find on-line at 2am……
For the life of me I couldn’t get the image to go clockwise……and I’ll leave it at that.

run it as a pocket querry…

Ok, I have GSAK, but do not have a clue how to use it! And I just updated to a premium membership so now I should be able to use pocket queries..right? Not that I know what to do with them either!! 😕 😕 😯 🙄 🙄

GSAK…I have no clue either…I have it…just have no idea what to do with it. I open the file with my mapping software; that seems to work well enough for me to get from A to B…..
