I want to have some fun and thumbs down a few stupid challenges but I can’t even get a list of ones “near” me. what is the magic location code to get a list? typed in Wisconsin and it came up with nothing, United States, same result…
There is one at Holy Hill in the town of Erin. I popped in a GC code for a cache in Oconomowoc and it came up.
I find myself wondering if now is the time for opencaching to have a new flurry of listings on their site to make it finally viable and give a little pressure to the frog
I think they are great and help identify us as a group thus making us look less weird to outsiders. If we all (or many of us) carry these we stand out to the public and thus the citizenry may tend to be less concerned by what we are up to and just assume (correctly) that it is an organized event.

Considering the recent debauching of the “find” count via challenges, what does it matter. In my opinion “Finds” is now meaningless, but it’s not about the numbers anyway (right?)
Agreed. Numbers have now gotten to the point of being a joke. Maybe its time to bring back logging temp caches at WGA events too….hang on I’ll be right back I need to get some coffee………….OK now I can tick off one more challenge and get a smiley.
Folks sure are not shy about speaking up on this change…this is the lamest thing I have seen the frog do since they opened up the waymarking site and banned the virts.

Just logged my 300th Challenge from my office chair. I am awesome and feel better for it too.
Dang you! only up to 30 so far, BUT, we are focusing on Germany 😈 😈
LMAO! 😈

After a brief look, we were not impressed. Maybe it will grow on us…. 😕
Same here…maybe I just don’t “get it” yet. These look even more like the old reverse caches to me now (at least the “World-wide” challenge caches). There was reason they got rid of those…..

Oh I know, I was going to be sneaky and change them to our family’s profile. But like I said, I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
And on a related note, I see you just posted a new EC. Hooray! I’m going to try and go get it soon.
🙂 That is the first I have put out in about 2 years. I just thought the formation of the lake being different from others in the area was interesting. I’ve had that one on the back-burner for a few years now.
😳 …SORRY FOR THE OFF TOPIC. 😳I’ll also add that the event costs far more than just the $1,000 in cash they give out…thousands more. I think in the next and 5th year, they will have had enough years under their belt to make a few changes and have the best event yet.
…I do love the idea of a removable book cover for stamping! That would make everyone happy; we still get to use the stamps, we have only one book to carry around, and if we want we could separate the cover and just carry that with us. Bravo on that thought. (Granted that may slow down the check in process at the end a bit)

So what do y’all think of the new announcement on Groundspeak’s Challenge program? I need to look into it some more but it looks interesting. 😎
At first glance it looks…well, lame. We’ll see.
…It does remind me of reverse geocaches though in that there (I’m assuming) will be so many challenge listings that it will be hard to pick out anything that is relevant to you…but again that is an assumption.

I’ll admit I was a little tempted when working on the EarthCache Masters to log my own EC’s. But I just couldn’t get myself to do it. I’ll probably be tempted again when I am close to getting to the next level…
Logging your own caches does not meet the req for EarthCache Masters program.
From the EarthCache website:
Please note that you can not claim Earthcaches that you have personally developed as a “logged Earthcache”.

I agree with Team Deejay completely. The first 3 years my daughter and I went out of our way to find every event cache. With the changes last year this year we only found event caches if they were along our route. Having 3 or 7 tickets really does not matter for a free gun lock..
Same here I used to find all or as many as I could; this year I found just about as many non-event caches as event caches…the change in the way tickets were handled made the official caches much less important.

I do not understand the purpose or running around in the middle of the night (actually wee hours of the morning) and chasing FTF’s when the event did not officially begin until noon on Friday. Thanks for waiting on the new caches. It seems like there were only a few who felt they needed to be searching the event caches at 1 in the morning….I think that was tacky.
For the record there was a technical glitch on Friday and the caches all listed at midday for a few minutes…long enough for quick folks (like myself) to grab all the coordinates. People could have found these as early as 2pm on Friday.
There are lots of reasons why this could happen…for example:
1. I logged my Chirp Cache in West Bend because I did not place the physical cache ( I did the write-up and programing of the Chirp devise) while another cacher who I adopted the listing out to hid the cache.
2. I logged a few of my own EarthCaches after I adopted them out to other cachers. I visited those sites and wanted them to get off my closest caches list; other listings I wrote up and adopted out where I have not personally visited I have not logged as a find.
There are many reasons why a cache owner might log their own cache…but in the end it is still a game and folks interpret the rules differently. There are lots of cachers who play in lots of different ways…what I may call cheating others may call creative logging practices…or better yet remind us to “get over ourselves.”
…as a side note, some of the elitist, purist attitudes expressed here have chased away several fellow geocachers…just food for thought.
