Thanks for the info. I’m working towards my Platinum destination. My first Earthcache is on public property, my next one will be in a State Park.

I have my 3 placed and more than enough found but I still need to knock off two more states to get Platinum.

I believe Earthcaches are really no different from physical caches when it comes to permission. If you need to provide notification (READ “get permission”) on lands controlled by the DNR for example, the same permission is required for Earthcaches. In fact the procedure for placing an Earthcache REQUIRES permission be granted BEFORE they will list your cache. You will be asked to provide a name and contact number for the park manager granting permission.

Last section in Waukesha County / Jefferson County:

Fifth Section Cont.- (Ottawa / Eagle / Palmyra)
South side of Cr Z. (near Hwy 67) to Bluff Rd (near Cr H)

    GCQXTA
    GC1439 (listed already)
    GCM9VR (listed already)
    GCT0ZX (Listed already)
    GCT0ZV (listed already)
    GCMFGD (listed already)
    GCKHZC (listed already)
    GC150BF (listed already)
GCQ85A (NEAR a segment of the IAT – this may not qualify)
GC684 (already listed….wouldn’t be a party without this cache!)
GCDB0 (not sure if this is on the IAT but it is close to it)
GCP3GB (pretty sure but not positive this is on the IAT; again if not on it, it is CLOSE)

If anyone wants to review these I’d be grateful……

Now it’s up to someone else to put in some time on this bookmark if they think the project worthy; pick a county…..

I think when this is done I will set out a cache and anyone who has logged a certain number of caches would be able to log it. I will call it ” Wisconsin Ice age Trail: The fabulous 50s”…or something clever….or well….something…or Maybe four caches:
Wisconsin IAT 25 (Bronze) -Micro cache
Wisconsin IAT 50 (Silver) -Small cache
Wisconsin IAT 75 (Gold) -Full size cache
Wisconsin IAT 100 (Platinum) -Large Cache

    -Cheers

    RE:WAUKESHA COUNTY
The northern part of Waukesha county is not very difficult to assign, but the Kettle Moraine in the southern part of the county is a beast. Without coordinates, eyeballing and mapping out where caches are placed in regards to the trail is really difficult.

I hope to have a list in a few days and I will post it here. I hope that one or more people could go through the list and help to add / throw out caches that are missing or wrong.

    😕

A bit fiddly but it does work. Zoom in to the area you want then under the layers tab check under the recreation and trails folder there you will be able to check the the Ice age trail.

    Hope this is helpful.

Perfect. Thank you very much. I saw that map but didnt understand how to use it. Now I get it. 🙂
Hemi I’ll get you a list of Waukesha and Jefferson county caches……

I have a section of the trail mapped out as a route that you could do a PQ on to get some of the caches.

I have been looking for something for Waukesha county but havent come up with any good street level maps of the trail……anyone know of a decent street level map of the trail in Waukesha / Jefferson County?

There is a book out called the Ice Age Trail Atlas, which has Topo Maps of all the current trails. You can get it from the Ice Age Foundation for $20 and they also carry it at some of the DNR “shops” like the Ice Age Center in Dundee. These would need to be either scanned in or manually copied to a standard route file. Then they could be uploaded. Note that this book is about 60 pages of very detailed maps.

Was hoping for something of the free variety……………..I’m going to keep poking around the internet…there must be something out there.

If you could send me the links to those caches I can start a bookmarked list to start with. (Serious)

For the rest I will hike the entire length of trail making notes along the way and put them on the list. (LOL)

Now that I think about it there are WAY more than I thought….I actually have three along the trail…..I guess that surprises me too. I’ll list mine below and get back to you (PM) with a list of several more within about 20 miles of Ocon. There is a large number in the Southern Kettle Moraine and in Merton and well as several in Waukesha.
    GC150BF
    GC11PT3
    GCP2QN
I actually have three more that may qualify as being along the Ice Age trail as I think the trail goes through the East and West side of Lapham Peak State Park…..I guess you will have to determine how close to the trail you want the caches…..I have three on each side of Lapham Peak and all of them are accessible from the Ice Age Trail, though not TOTALLY RIGHT ON the trail. I think when you run into a park the line gets fuzzy as to wether the cache is ON or just near the trail.

in reply to: Ice Age Trail Caches #1878795

Great idea…but it may be be really hard to implement.

It would take a lot of cooperation to even figure out what caches were on the path as its not like you can see the trail on a map as easily as you can see a cemetery. There has got to be over 3 or 4 dozen Ice age caches within 20 miles of me placed by almost as many cachers (including myself now that I think about it).

He logged this one twice several months after it had vanished GCNY38
I wonder if GC would take away his account for this kind of crap?

Not to steal thunder here or get off topic too much but if you are interested in the Niagara Escarpment I have an Earth Cache featuring it near Eagle.
The Niagara Escarpment: Brady’s Rock GC150BF
Be careful though you might learn something.

I tried to do the same thing…and failed. On my latest caching trip I signed in after a bunch of the finds you made recently…I imagined you driving up on your moto…….me, I had the car…and in some cases my bike (TREK).

    Congrats……and here’s to 1,000

    That sounds similar to letterboxing.

    Yep.
I did this 30 years ago when I lived in West Allis. Each summer we would hunt down a watermelon in McCarty Park by finding scraps of paper hidden all over the park. Each scrap would give clues to find the next piece. This is totally like letterboxing, but this is also where geocaching gets its roots.
I think that this style of hunt is a decent way to introduce them to a geocaching like hunt…..
