Usually what is referred as a “Travel Bug Prison” is nothing more than a cache which simply asks someone to trade bugs rather than just grabbing them and moving them. The Term was made up by people with nothing better to do than to place irritating bookmarks on cache pages. ๐
Your bug is not trapped there by any stretch of the imagination….
Woot!
Awesome!!Now of that 500 how many live in Appleton………… ๐
I remember how excited I was when I finally got on the list when I made my 200th…When I started in late 04 it was a whole lot of work to get 100. I can’t even imagine how hard it was in 03…02…01…2000.
My hat is off to a great group of geocachers who both hide and seek out these little treasures.

RE: Step #5 in the procedures
I have submitted my Earthcaches directly to http://www.earthcache.org/ as GC reviewers do not approve these caches.
I’m wondering if the step 5 procedures should be amended to make note of where to submit Earthcaches so that there is no confusion.
(Also the reviewer information in the first post of this thread could use some updating……)
The SNA cache placement procedures seem to be working just fine….Thomas A. Meyer, the Conservation Biologist for the State Natural Areas Program got back to me with permission two or three days after I emailed him and even linked to the posted procedures (for SNA placements) in our forums and informed me of the next steps to take to get my SNA placed Earthcache moving forward. Thanks Tie and fellow WGA members for getting us permission to get back into SNAs as they are some of the most striking areas in the state.
Who needs a container? All I need is a smile. ๐

I suspect the earthcache people might be confused. I will check with Tie.
PM sent with EC email regarding the WI approval issue.
It is possible that when the EC folks said, “….I will contact our Wisconsin reviewers again….” they meant they have their own EC Wisconsin Approvers and NOT our WI GC Approvers.

Curious to see where yours will be.
#1. just north of Eagle – now active
#2. just west of Oconomowoc – in Que waiting for some kind of WI approver OK.
#3. just north of Dundee (by Long Lake) – still waiting for SNA folks to get back to me.-I really enjoyed making these. I guess I miss school a bit too much.

If you are placing an earthcache in an SNA, they contact Tie before approving the cache. Did you tell them you were placing a cache in an SNA? Otherwise, there should be no contact with us.
No, the first one was not placed in an SNA (it took 12 days to get approved after the OK from the EC folks). Do not get me wrong I am not complaining about the delay in approval, in fact a portion of that delay is possibly my own fault.
My second Earthcache is in a county park. It was OK’d yesterday by EC folks- (still waiting for it to publish).
I’m just curious what the process is on our (WI reviewers) end?
*EDIT*
Oh and yes I have a third (and final) one that is going the SNA route but that is not the focus of my inquiry as I have yet to get the OK from the SNA folks….I’m confused on a couple of points in the process of approval…I read in the GC placement rules that the regional reviewer has no part in the process:
“EarthcachesThis is a unique but limited cache type. An Earthcache is an educational site that people can visit to view a unique geoscience feature on-the-ground.
All Earthcaches must be submitted and approved through the Geological Society of America รขโฌโ the regional Groundspeak volunteer cache reviewers have no involvement with Earthcache listings. The Earthcache submittal form and Guidelines may be found on the Earthcache.org site. http://www.earthcache.org/
Logging an Earthcache find requires compliance with the requirements stated by the owner and the Earthcache Website, including answering the required questions by e-mail to the owner, providing original photos if so requested, etc.”
Yet The Earthcache folks said they were waiting for Wisconsin reviewers to sign off on my cache…..something about making sure local reg’s were being followed in it’s placement.
So what involvement if any is up to the Wisconsin Reviewer?
When placing a cache in an area where I know other caches exist I enter in all the waypoints for them and then when I find the perfect spot for my cache, I do just as Jay said and check to see if the other caches / waypoints are at least 528 feet away.
Just be aware that many mystery (Puzzle) caches may appear much further away than what they really are. You should solve the closest puzzles so you know where those waypoints are (or ask the owner for a general idea of where they are placed if you cannot solve them). For example, a few of my puzzles have the listed coords over a mile away from the actual placement of the cache.

LOL…..I just did this to one of mine! I have sent this guy about 5 emails now….oh well. I feel better now. ๐
I congratulate you on your accomplishment, it’s not one I think I will ever manage to equal. But even so you can no more become a voting WGA member than Arnold can become president…unless you move here ( guess that is one thing poor Arnold can’t do). The bylaws were written and input was taken from the membership and the BOD. I see no reason to change them or why a vote would be needed.
I have had a cell phone now for just over a month…..I barely know how to use it much how to enter in someones phone number….Actually, I’d not phone a friend. Granted this is also why I have so many bloody DNFs. I may ask when I get home though if it’s something that REALLY bothers me….but even then i usually only ask for the vaguest of hints…like that blasted Jefferson cache which I looked for about 4 times now and still haven’t found….I have asked for a very vague hint (which hasn’t helped) gerrrr…..
