Perhaps we should organize a Permit compliance day. Everyone could submit their permit forms on the same day. It might make it easier for them to handle 500 permits on the same day, rather then spread them out 😉

That’s good thinking. That way they’d be sure not to misplace the forms. Gotta keep things organized and tidy.

Does anyone know if the June 2nd event is a go or not?

Ug! You meant this June 2nd? Can’t do it; I’ll be oogling Lance Armstrong as I ride past him in the Trek 100. I somehow let this whole event slip through my fingers! Any chance that you folks will consider moving the Chippewa Falls event closer to Milwaukee next year?

I have to agree with you. Too many times I have read a hint that reads something like…”not on the ground.” With a hard hide and this kind of hint, I have seen too often where these areas have been completely torn up. The geocacher who provides such a vague hint is irresponsible and should be held accountable for the damaged area. A cache check by the owner would reveal the damage being done to the area; this damage is a huge flag that says “Hey maybe I need to either remove the cache or get a better hint on the page.”

Granted the geocachers who tore up the area are directly responsible, the cache owner could have (and should have) lessened the chance of damage being done with a good hint. This is especially true in sensitive areas.

Hey if it’s a lap post hide, don’t bother with the hint; asphalt is pretty forgiving to searching. If the hide is near gardens or other easily damaged areas I think one should consider if their hide will be hard enough to warrant a really good hint or if it’s no-brainer as to its location.

Here’s an email I received that you may want to pass along to family and friends:

Please heed this warning. It could happen to you.

    TICK WARNING!

I hate it when people forward bogus warnings, and I have even done it
    myself a couple times unintentionally…
but this one is real, and it’s important. So please send this warning
to everyone on your e- mail list.

If someone comes to your front door saying they are checking for
ticks due to the warm weather and asks you to take your clothes off and
dance around with your arms up, DO NOT DO IT!! THIS IS A SCAM!!
They only want to see you naked.

I wish I’d gotten this yesterday. I feel so stupid.

    LMAO!!!

Clearly this policy is disappointing at best. I too hope that this is a first draft as they still have to get some of the facts right such as:

As is required by the Wisconsin Geocaching Association, a geocache shall be clearly labeled in large lettering with the word “Geocache” on the outside of the container.

To my knowledge the WGA has made no REQUIREMENTS that caches be labeled…in fact the WGA has no say whatsoever in the labeling of caches; that falls to the listing body (http://www.geocaching.com).

Perhaps they will ask for some input from people who actually know something about this sport. It wouldn’t hurt to help them draft this document….we could leave out some of those pesky PERMIT REQUIRED BEFORE PLACEMENT wordings.
