The cache owners openly note that they have created liar’s caches. I have no doubt that this is also one. But I’d still like to see this location.

I am confused by the concept of a liar’s cache. Is it OK to lie about finding it? 😯
The hider lies about the rating, finders lie about their adventure, why shouldn’t we all be allowed to lie about finding it?Oh that cache…ya I found it twice already. 😉

Are we meeting these expectations, or is it all smoke and mirrors?
I have been called naive in the past, but from my viewpoint, I think we have been doing a pretty fair job of it. We may be a little weak on CITO events, but I do see a regular effort by our cachers to clean as we go.
I believe we have done well.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m in no way implying that the board or the members are not meeting the goals, but rather looking to restate them at election time and to refresh in everyones mind exactly what this organization is about…and Yes I agree that your statement is a fair and accurate one.
Is it possible to rename this topic “Questions for Candidates: Mega Events” or something akin to that?
The current broad heading will make this a very difficult topic to track once other questions about other topics are asked.Knowledge about geocaching seems to be hit or miss even within the departments.
Personally I’m a bit on the reclusive side so a formal presentation would be difficult for me, but I would be happy to drop off a packet of information at the local PD(s).
It would be cool to have a form letter type hand out which includes basic information about geocaching, a statement from the WGA with contacts and a page to list the locations of current area geocaches (and their owners / contact information) as a reference for the officers to see.

Thanks for all the help. I’m a little poorer after placing orders with GPS City and Newegg but soon I should be able to autoroute to the bank to get some more money!
Ditto….I just bought the GarminMap60cx and learned how to use my existing MapSource MetroGuide on it 😛
Thanks everyone!!Ok since this topic has opened… I was going to ask a question about this same Garmin 60cx which I plan to purchase…this is still somewhat on topic so I’ll bend the topic only slightly.
I have an older version of the maps called “MapSource MetroGuide” does anyone know if this will work with the Garmin 60cx ?
I think I have a line on one…thanks everyone! It looks like the consensus is that cachemate is the way to go as well so that will be bought and loaded. I can’t believe how cheaply these can be bought second hand.

I’m looking for a cheap PDA that will be able to be used for caching…if someone has an extra one laying around please let me know…..
I do. I actually have 2, but only one works on a regular basis.

Perhaps you could lend it to me while I find a cheap AND reliable unit? Sux being on a geocaching budget 😕
I would like to load cachemate on it and give that a try as I have been destroying a lot of trees lately in my latest quest for cache….

Trust me you are not alone with the tune running through your head….. 😉
Has there been any more news on this event? I’m trying to plan some spring / summer activities and really want this to be part of my plans…

I beleive you can go to Vince’s Geocaching with Condella, and you will be able to watch it online.
Here’s the link, I hope I do this right.

I bought this as a back up on 8-18-06. I have used it 2-3 times. It is in mint condition. I still have the box and original materials as well as the reciept if you want it. I paid 149.95 plus tax for it but would sell it for $110 (plus shipping).
It comes with a base map factory installed but I can add the detailed maps from MapSource for the about one quarter or so of the state closest to you if you wish.

I just don’t get the attraction.
…provides for me an excuse to go to IL…
You don’t need an excuse. Within 10 miles of Zion, IL (ZIP 60099) you will find over 100 caches offering almost anything you would want in a cache. Within 50 miles, there are almost 2500 caches. Check out the Batavia area (ZIP 60510) as well, there are over 200 caches within 10 miles. We mixed the BoB caches with others and found it tolerable, but it was the other caches that put some spark into the day. Illinois has a lot of great caches to visit. Don’t wait for the BoBs to be reactivated.
-Thanks I guess I never really considered just heading to IL to cache as there are thousands directly between me and IL that I still haven’t gotten; I guess that is why I stated that I needed an excuse to head to IL. Passing a few thousand caches without stopping just seems wrong somehow (or is that just my OCD showing it’s ugly head).
