Contact the owner of the Cold cache bookmark. I do not remember her name, but she works (for?) the IAT group.

Her name is Dolly…she’s a volunteer (I believe). I went through her initially for my EC approval then was bounced to two more folks who actually draw payroll from the foundation. I was hoping there was someone out there who knew of a policy or had other direct dealing with the permission process.

My feeling is that there is no policy and that permission is not (or is in very few cases) being sought from the foundation for placements. I’m not sure if they should be approached by us for the creation of a geocaching policy or not; I’m guessing we would not like what we would be told. Still this is by far the largest trail in the state…and most of the country for that matter.

The biggest issue I see is that much of the trail is not owned by the foundation but rather by the state or private landowners who give permission for folks to walk on it…but it is (in the case of private landowners) still private property.

I for one am thrilled that the WGA has finally stepped up the CITO efforts. I think it is a great PR tool.

There have been a few CITO events around here held by AuntieNae but as yet I have not attended one….I have yet been able to attend one but hope to this time out.

In any case, I tip my hat to the WGA 😛

The geocaching was over-explained and boring. This series will be yet another bomb for Mr. Slater. Still I watched the show and it was mildly entertaining in a slow train-wreck sort of way.

Holy cow…that’s a lot of information you put out there…you might want to sticky this (or something similar) someplace on the site.

I would estimate that probably 25% so of experienced geocachers use the included waypoint manager. The rest use third party managers which provide much more features. When you first start out, I would recommend that you stick with this free version for your first 100 caches or so. Other popular options are EasyGPS (free), ExpertGPS ($60), and GeoBuddy ($60), but most people around here are using GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) ($25, Shareware). If you want to go this route, you probably should buttonhole someone into showing you how they use GSAK (everyone will have different answers) to see whether or not you want to mess with it.

Approaching 3,000 finds now…and I still haven’t figured out that whole GSAK thing. Maybe some day someone will show me how to go about this whole geo cashing thing correctly.

Thanks Bec. Is this the guy that you thought was an obstinate cross-dressing curmudgeon or is this the cross-eyed nitwit? I get those two mixed up.

Is that true? Every state but Wisconsin allows this? Reading that statement really made me cringe as most “every” and “all” statements turn out to be false.

I’m ready to write my letter to TPTB should that be needed. Thanks Zuma.

    *Bump*

I got my trail Info from the IAT folks…planning a nice long hike for this upcoming weekend (barring rain).

Along the way I’m going to try and clear up a DNF on one of Mr.Greenthumbs IAT located caches…

That just gave me an idea. It could be a TRAVELING GEOCACHE!
“The Geocache that comes to you!” 🙂

I could just attach a TB dog tag to the handle, and send it on it’s way. A TB with a log book and tradeable swag inside? Could it be a first?

Much like the toilet seat travel bug, its going to be near impossilble to find a cache big enough to put it in when its bigger than most regular caches. Nice idea though.

Who has the toilet seat travel bug? Last time I saw it, POC had it…

I have the toliet seat. Meant to bring it with me to the last 3 events I attended, and forgot it each time, so it is still here with me. Hopefully, I will remember to take it to Bong.

Well make sure you have it unscrewed a day or two before the event and it shouldn’t be a problem…

I just happened to do a quick search online and noticed that custom bumper stickers (full color & 3″x10″) can be purchased in bulk for 560 / 1000 or less than $0.60 each. At this size you could have multiple smaller sizes with on larger one.

Just throwing out ideas and leveraging on the bumper sticker idea. I’ve never purchased these, but assume that a bumper sticker would be “weather friendly” and it included full color at no additional charge.

This idea was discussed in the board meeting along with several others.

One thing we learned is that company’s that print stickers will likely not take a job if you are planning to “cut up” the sticker into multiple stickers. They know this by the design you submit. They earn revenue on quantity printed. It is generally frowned upon in that industry to print 2 stickers on one sticker. This is typically why stickers aren’t as cheap as you think they “should be”.

In this economy, I’m quite sure if you approached a printing company with a 2 or 3 up design and explained to them that the 3 parts were meant for an individual cache and therefor necessary, they wouldn’t turn you away. Just design it in such a way that it looks like a concert ticket or hunting liscense that has a number of integral, but separable, parts.

I think the case could be made that a sticker design like that could and would be used for multi caches. Now, if some cachers decide to use them for different caches, that’s their perogative.

Thank you for posting that. I agree but was unable to articulate it as well as you did.
