Nope. We cache without paper. All that’s needed is something like a PDA or the fancy Oregon GPSr that all the cool kids have. We’re not cool, so we use our nuvi like a PDA.
I partially resemble your Oregon statement.
I have all I need with that unit. I do not NEED internet on trail nor would I want it. Like many others I have a Cell Phone with me for safety reasons alone….again, it’s only on when I cache or bike ride….the rest of the time it lives cold and dark in my desk drawer.01/24/2010 at 3:56 pm in reply to: Ice Age Trail Companion Guide Volunteer Field Editors needed #1920558I think this page might help you: http://www.iceagetrail.org/countyhike.htm
I have the maps and companion guide in spiral bound form.
01/24/2010 at 2:45 pm in reply to: Ice Age Trail Companion Guide Volunteer Field Editors needed #1920556…well if you are a fence-sitter, the feedback from the Field Editor is not due until Aug 31st which really does provide quite a bit of time to get the hike done. I believe they were going to send me my packet of materials in Feb. which gives me 6 months. If I manage to get the 19 miles done early I may go back for another section or two…but who knows…I too have all my Sats from April to June filled with other obligations. I’m hoping to get the hike done with snow still on the ground.

I would be happy to assist with any portions of the trail in Marquette/Waushara/Portage counties, if this was a WGA initiative.
I doubt that the WGA will officially organize this. If you wish to help contact the individual on my thread post and let them know you are a WGA member and would like to help.
The Appleton Scheels sporting goods store also shows the coords on the home page….both of those stores are great.
Craphas! I almost found that one last weekend but ran out of time….
I dropped off a couple of boxes of food at the local food pantry on Sat…man what an eye-opening experience. Everyone should visit their local food pantry. There are poor and needy folks everywhere; I guess it doesn’t matter where you help just that you do.
The company I work for is donating $50,000 plus matching all employee donations…

You don’t need to live in the north for that….lots of folks right here down south in the geocache drop zone have never heard of the organization.

I’m still pondering this, but Gary already took most of my favorite sections of trail.
😉
I did think about you when I signed up for those sections….I too really love those sections…but I’m guessing there are lots more great sections out there to visit. You could always head north. I “know” you like those sections (due to caches you have placed) as well. You’d head through the Loew Lake and Holy Hill segments which would be awesome. A bit further north and you are in the Pike Lake State Park which is amazing as well.01/20/2010 at 5:47 pm in reply to: Ice Age Trail Companion Guide Volunteer Field Editors needed #1920550I too think that would be great if we as the WGA members could pull something like that off. Maybe we could create a 1,000 mile cacher trail as we go. In all seriousness they are very protective of their property and easements. Certainly our assisting them in this project would go a long way in fostering goodwill with them. As there have been no replies to this thread save yours (not that any replies were solicited), I wonder how much support we would have….
Hummm….nothing loaded about this question. It’s I guess a good thing I’m not “required” to answer this one.

Because not all of us have been here that long! Also there were a total of 124 votes cast in that referendum. We have a active membership of 983. The fact that 8% of our membership decided something (voted yes) should tell you this topic will be brought up again!
the ones holding the majority of the events in the state and who generally have the most finds and experience with the geocaching community and it’s going-ons) and it showed a clear message.
This topic and vote dealt only with WGA events not other folks events. If you wish to hold an event you can have as many temps as you like and log them as you see fit.
So the WGA should only care about what those people with the most finds have to say, nice I’ll stop caring till I hit the top 100. Thanks for the lesson!
That is not what I said. My post pointed out the misinterpretation of your statistic of 8%, but feel free to take me out of context as much as you like. That concludes my involvement in this topic.

Would you as a board member like the option to have temporary caches logged on the event page brought back at WGA events or would you rather the current policy of disallowing this practice be continued?
🙂 Oh no, not again 🙂
This is an important question as it ultimately determines how the WGA is viewed by the geocaching community at large. My apologies for having to ask it as I know it is a charged subject. My apologies also for posting any comment here as this is supposed to be for candidate discussion alone.

I can’t believe this topic is back…
There are not enough rolling eye emoticons to use to ponder why a thread nearly two years dead needed to come back.
Do you think it came back because of your candidates corner question? What did you expect?
Would have been better to start a new thread though… it’s a new decade now. People dress differently than back when that thread was posted.
Speaking of this, did anyone see Conan’s “looking back” segment last night? Hilarious commentary that fits with this quite well 😀
It is certainly a result of my question. But it was a question which needed to be asked of the candidates as there are those who will not vote for a candidate who wishes to make the association look badly in the eyes of the rest of the geocaching community…and let’s face it the logging of temps at WGA events did just that.
…and yes a new thread should have been created to address new concerns.
