Because not all of us have been here that long! Also there were a total of 124 votes cast in that referendum. We have a active membership of 983. The fact that 8% of our membership decided something (voted yes) should tell you this topic will be brought up again!
The statistics are misleading. If you think only 8% of the “active” membership had a say on this topic you are mistaken. “Active” means I believe they visited the board one time in the past year. The vast majority of these “active” members have posted only a couple of times if at all and likely never even visited a WGA event. The vote was taken by folks who are ACTUALLY ACTIVE (you know, the ones holding the majority of the events in the state and who generally have the most finds and experience with the geocaching community and it’s going-ons) and it showed a clear message.
This topic and vote dealt only with WGA events not other folks events. If you wish to hold an event you can have as many temps as you like and log them as you see fit.

I can’t believe this topic is back…
There are not enough rolling eye emoticons to use to ponder why a thread nearly two years dead needed to come back.
bored now…. 🙄

To be honest, it can be an intrusion when we’re out hiking somewhere peaceful and that phone rings and that zen is broken. We still answer it, but the only reason we carry that phone in the first place is for emergencies.
Same here. The cell phone is for emergency use only. I carry it while geocaching and biking…other than that is sits in a drawer at home….and the home phone is basically for the wife and kids….I like email much better.
When out int the field I prefer to pass or fail on my own merits. If I have a question it goes to the CO not another finder (99.99% of the time). Yes, I guess I could call the CO, but there are few caches THAT important where I’d find that necessary. Ya a DNF sucks but it is part of the game…besides I really hate phones.
…that said, I do think it is a good idea. Lagrac and I were discussing this missing bit this past weekend. He has numerous contacts and said it was great for meeting folks and being more social…plus the occasional help on a find wasn’t a bad thing.
gotta say I have never looked at it….but if it’s there is might as well work.
Thanks Jeremy.@CodeJunkie wrote:
It’s an upgrade!!!!!!!!!!
As a professional developer (i.e. CodeJunkie) please remember the mantra.
No good upgrade goes unpunished.
I’m sure there will be some glitches, but we have to expect that when they make upgrades.
lol…I wondered how you’d respond to this with your background…(I still think it’s ugly).

This is the first time I tried to go out and got that message. I for one will give them a Tuesday so I can still cache on Saturday!
This is quite often exactly why Groundspeak does their maintenance on Tuesdays/Wednesdays. So that any changes they make to the software/hardware will not impact the weekends.
I would guess it’s a planned site update.
It is…there are lots of updates….
I’m hoping this means they are adding the new EarthCache applications to the system….
Oh ya! New feature added today:13374: EarthCaches: make the EarthCache type available to everyone
Added ability for users to select Earthcache type when submitting a new cache@Braid Beard’s Gang wrote:
Here is some self-promotion. This cache happened to be placed over the weekend in Southeast WI. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=a7460e43-d073-4b9a-994c-418fbff5a765
RangerBoys “The Island” resurrected. I hope yours has better luck, RangerBoys went missing there a few times…

Back to selling items on eBay to earn extra money…
Sorry for offtopicing but do you ever get burned on Ebay stuff?

Actually, even if you list a virtual stage as a SoaM waypoint, it still will not be considered a physical stage. We used to do this, but it was too inconsistantly enforced. If it is a physical stage, it needs to be at least 528 feet from all other physical parts of OTHER caches. The only exception is firetacks.
Thanks for that clarification!
And now I’m wondering about the whole firetack loophole…. 😉
