Just don’t give up all hope on your missing tb’s and coins. Just last week I had one of my coins show up after being missing for over two years. And another coin showed up this month after being missing for over a year. I am on a roll right now, maybe more of my 100 plus missing coins will show up soon. 🙄

same here I had a bug go missing for two years only to show up AND accomplish its mission…ya just never know.

    Quote from cache log…
“We took the more “public” route to get to the cache and one of the neighbors came out to give us a talkin’ to about keeping off his property, so beware of the property lines. He was aware of what we were looking for and gave us a hint which was wrong. I wonder if he comes out everytime he sees people poking around? He made a fairly sarcastic comment about how he could really understand why people would want to spent their time looking for hidden objects.”

This is an example of an instance where the “Needs Archived” log should be used. Clearly the neighbor is irritated. We as geocachers can police the caches by logging those questionable listings as Needs Archived. That sends an instant message to the reviewers who will take seriously the note. The same goes for roundabouts…if they are deemed unsafe by any cacher they can flag them.

They are stupid hides but safety is at the discretion of everyone caching.

I’m all for seeing natural selection in action but I also believe that there are some things we need to do to protect the borderline gene-pool swimmers and if a few lost green areas accomplishes this so be it.

I have a question regarding the science text on the Earthcache. If a developer has multiple Earthcaches that are similar formations such as an esker, how does one write up the text? They’re all formed the same, just the location is different. I hate to think I’d just copy and paste, but that would make it easier. I am doing the Loew Lake Esker, Mondeaux Esker and the Hemlock Esker. (and maybe any other esker I hike across) What’s the best way to address this? Thanks.

Yes the formation is the same but the uniqueness of the area should be fully explained. I have written up three (now 4; 5 if you include one which was copied from my writeup by another cacher…with permission) Lime kiln listings and they are all different in some fashion…some include additional information about the process and some include more or less about the specific areas geology. The latest one I have in que (for three weeks now…still waiting) has been almost totally rewritten and is fresh with new information. I’d hate to see copy and paste ECs.

It’s bad enough when I see a listing which is nothing but a copy of Wikipedia. My feeling is that a listing which is simply copied and pasted provides a disservice to the EC author as I think (s)he should really understand the area they are writing about. We are not geologists and I understand that, but I think that we could at least put in the time to look at multiple sources and craft a page based on what we have learned from those sources. The best advice I can give for folks making an EC is that they first learn about the area themselves (and really understand it) then write up the listing and try to make it easy for others to understand as well.

That said, the originality of the listing IMO decreases in importance in direct relation to the distance from one EC to another of the same topic. In other words put enough distance between two similar listings and I really don’t see a big issue.

I’m sure Dolly will be agreeable on that. I plan on going back to the flowage this fall, which is not too far away. I have some unfinished dirt time on the IAT to cover in that area. One thing I need to do is come up with a series of educational tasks for the Earthcacher regarding the tunnel channel. Do you have any suggestions?

Will PM you. I have the write up done save for coords and a task.

However, the new caches are really tempting. Perhaps it’s time to visit relatives in Springfield.

Any chance those the the same ones I need to visit? But that is a heck of a long drive down there….

The one in Oconomowoc is very dangerous for pedestrians. It’s two lanes in the circle with traffic coming from 4 directions….a cache placed there would be very irresponsible…you just can’t see people as they are on your left and you are goin in a circle…Add to that cars next to you or trying to merge while you spot a person in the cross walk and try to stop….forget it. The cars can’t even manage to get in the correct lane to travel through it half the time (without additional distractions).

Dolly McNulty and I are also working on
    Mondeaux Tunnel Channel
    Mondeaux Esker
    Hemlock Esker
    Hemlock Erratic
Photos, coords, and placement authorization in place.

I have a write-up done for a Tunnel Channel which I never used…I’d be willing to help on that listing as well….if you and Dolly want to send me what you have I can put it together: it wouldn’t take me much time at all to create the listing.

..the middle one…that wouldn’t be on a hilltop between Ocono and Lake Mills would it?

    Yep.

I thought I recognized the location GCVJ1Q ….I’ve been to maybe 150 cemeteries and I think that one was my favorite…it’s been three years since I was there and the image was exactly what I remembered.

Not sure about new hobbies, but for me losing one occurred…I used to be quite an online gamer…now I simply don’t have the time what with all the geocaching…

I want to finish the entire Ice Age Trail by July 7 next year (when I’m 50) I’v hiked more than half the trail to date. So staying in the house while the weather is nice is difficult. Gary I’d sure like to sit down with you sometime over a beverage and you can give me some pointers or we could co-develop some IATCC’s.

I plan to begin THE HIKE this fall starting with the counties closest to me….not sure if I’ll ever hike the whole trail or not but it sure is a worthy goal.

I love to write up listings so co-developing them is no problem. Usually I like to have someone grab the coords and site specific information and I do the writing and research.

Ah the sweet sweet sound of signal lock.

in reply to: Do you like to watch? #1914064

I watch all ECs I helped create and a handfull of other caches which I plan to find in he future…so currently I have 24 listings I’m peeking at.

in reply to: ColdCache — anyone heard of it yet? #1902249

I developed three new Ice Age Trail ColdCaches (IATCC)…one is published, one is waiting for someone (from GC?) to hit the submit button and one is written but not yet submitted. These new listings are all on different topics: two in the Southern Kettle and one up nord (and West).

Also I have the level one patch and certificate and have earned the next two levels as well. Come on folks let’s get Earthy.

Just found this map on MutherAndSun’s profile. Looks like they’re outlining the different counties with their sign hides. Maybe some creativity in that.

This looks easy but in reality I looked at the map more closely and many of these caches are not on single roads as they would appear…they are very often on several different roads where you are forced to snake up and down to get to them…
