    Here’s one way:
    BOLD are screen selections.
WHERE TO?>then select the target on the bottom of the screen>A MAP POINT>then pick a spot on the map>USE> You will now be selecting POIs near the map pin.

I’ve been reading this thread with interest, especially after having seen the Oregon 550 at geowoodstock. Today I finally made my decision, and am making the switch from Magellan to a Garmin Oregon 550. My Magellan still works pretty good, but I was disapointed that I can no longer upgrade the maps, and that Magellan no longer even provides repairs for this unit. I think that caching is about to get a whole lot more fun. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences with this model.

Good luck…..it will be a fun ride.

We took our 12 year old grandaughter Emma to tour the Milton House today. After a picnic lunch in the park across the street we headed for the IAT with our bikes to try the “Whimsical Tails” series. We found all fifteen plus 2 more that were along the same section of trail. On the way home we found 6 more, mostly WSQ’s, for a total of 23. The last one was #800 for her family’s team. It also put us a little closer to #2000, but it will be hard to top the fun we had with Emma today letting her do most of the finding.

The kids and I were there Sunday morning as well….but decided it was just too buggy to get the bikes out on trail….bummer looks like we made the wrong choice as we missed the chance to run into you. Congrats to Opps5

I got refused at a lock and dam I don`t know why but I have a regular cache there with permission so never say never

refused by who, the land owner or a local geocache owner? Geoaware no longer requires you ask other cache owners for their blessings.

😀 😀 Cool idea. I guess I am being a dunderhead here – go ahead and say it. 😛 But… I’m not getting it.

If you want to win prizes, you still get that – even better – you get better odds. If you want to have the challenge of getting 50 caches – you still get that – we will have them. Is it the stamp page you want? I don’t see how having that stamp page enriches the game at all???? You still get to post your finds – they are permanent and you get your 50 smilies for the day, soooo I am not sure how the stamp page itself enriches the game/day/challenge????

….I’m not sure what it is about a stamp book, but the wife sure likes em filled with stamps…

But what I meant was no tickets for caches…tickets for visiting a few spots around town. This would encourage travel and spending . Those who chose to travel to these locations would get additional tickets for the drawing…those who don’t wish to do that would get the one or two tickets offered at the beginning of the day….but the whole point from the chambers POV is that people travel the city and spend $….without incentive to do that why would the chamber want to hold the event?

…and like I said I will come out with way more than 50 if there are no additional entries for caches…so for me it’s really a wash as to which way this goes….I do like smiles.

I agree those who are dishonest will always find a way….how bout this:

Set up your 50 new caches (or whatever # you run with) and do not offer tickets for those finds, instead set up a number of check points around the city (probably less than 10…5 might be better). At these check points have a real person stamp a book or hand out a single ticket to each team. This face to face might eliminate some of the potential nonsense that goes on when greed rears it’s ugly head. The other plus to this is that the city is still explored and at a much more casual pace…additional money would likely also be spent in town….

I did the Urban Adventure Race in Madison last year and you needed to ride all over the city by bike and collect beads (given by real people) after performing a task (these were crazy things like swimming into the lake on huge inflatable ducks and bike limbo…but I digress). A couple of these checkpoints were mystery points which you had to figure out on your own…could add a neat twist…or encourage folks to mingle to figure out where these mystery spots are….

Your odds of winning would go up. 1/800 instead of 1/ten-thousands. Plus, we’d add more prizes to the raffle.

    What does everyone else think?

My odds would go down…very few folks found 50+ caches…for each team which didn’t, my odds were better. I like winning….I guess I’m shallow like that. But like I said, I’d still come whatever the format would be and I’d guess that would hold true for most folks.

But also consider that I might pop in at registration, go home, and come back later in the day to see if I won….no real incentive for me to hang out in town if I didn’t feel like it….

Instead, each CACHER will receive 1 or 2 tickets at the start of the day when they register at Cache Central or possibly be eligible when they register on time.

I’d rather get tickets for each cache but I’m more about the competition (with myself).

…but yes I would still come if I only got one or two tickets…but I’d just hunt whatever was around all day (which as an end result would boost my days find numbers as I wouldn’t be trekking all over the place and skipping caches along the way).

In reality this might be the best answer to getting folks to stop for lunch and spend some green as well.

Dolly had contacted me about making my “Government Hill” (GC1QD7Q) a ColdCache, but I haven’t heard back from her yet. Does anyone know how to do that? I assume that you add the prefix to it, but is there more to it?

She needs to make sure your cache qualifies (as far as I can tell it does). Give her a email back and see where the classification is at if she hasn’t yet given you approval….I suggested your site to her…I’d love to see it in the CC program.
    😛

If you need help with the HTML for the CC stuff let me know and I can help you out / provide it to you.

I don’t know if this is the right place to ask, but I didn’t want to start another Cache Ba$h thread.

It seemed to me like there was an “official” picture taker. Taking pictures of the winners, and the cachers coming in. Are those picture posted somewhere…or are they going to be posted somewhere? I see there is an empty photo album for the bash. Thanks

I took a few pictures….mostly of my team mate as he won the $100 prize….Jerk…I mean, woot!

Oh and BTW…we as it turns out were not immune to the Poison Ivy. Tim got a pretty good case of it; I only had a few red dots on one leg (maybe 5) which is odd because I lead most of the day. (I think he wanted me to get all the spider webs in my face and get attacked by all the critters lurking in the woods- I hear tell there is a Woolly Mammoth and a Goatman running amok).

Ya, and that whole trekking through the tall grass and thicket for #33…I’m pretty sure it was my trail the rest of you followed. 😳 Without the cache page to tell me expressly not to do this I was on my own to find a way over…Next year long pants it is.

I guess the suggestion that comes out of this post is that if there is important information about a cache make sure it gets in the book and not just listed on the cache page because few (if any) will have that cache pages. We will be working off the coords and other printed materials we get at check in.
