All you need to do is tag it….there is no one to ask and no need to report to anyone. It’s simply a designation to tell folks that the cache is in a cemetery. You might want to let Mark 5 digits know though as he holds several bookmarks to organize the listings.

EDIT….let me rephrase…you still should get permission prior to placing any geocache so caches placed in a cemetery are of course no exception, but you don’t need any permission for using “FOG or “WSQ” designations.

plus unless the coords of the critters were averaged using different units we were actually not closer or further to the critters but to the unit which took the original coords….not that it matters one way or another.

the best coords were an average of all the entries (with any major outliers omitted), so there was no unit that took the original coords so yes the coords were averaged with different units.

cool. That was the best way to get an accurate GZ. Thanks.

Because geocaching is an outdoor sport, basically that would be up to each team to decide if they want to battle the rain or not. It is held rain or shine. I have seen cachers go out in some pretty awful weather so I know it would have affected some, but not all.

It would have provided me more incentive to get em all….better odds. I once went out in a full blizzard (at night) and walked on nearly inch thick ice on boardwalks to attempt a FTF…..turned out to be a DNF.

(BTW I have mellowed a bit now and unless the cache is placed in my yard…..which actually happened…..I usually don’t bother going for the FTF).

We do realize that we have some work to do to make the GPX files we create more “friendly” for the Oregon/Colorado folks… there was a bit of confusion created by the way the caches showed up in these units.

Ya I’m not sure what was up with the DL I got on my Oregon (at the court house). Some of the wps were shown on my unit with large icons some were small…and I think they all showed up as waypoints not as geocaches in the unit….and no page descriptions. It took me a bit to figure out how to find the listings…but then I just searched for them by the numbers I saw on the map…..no big deal, I still managed to work it out and get on with my day.

Not sure what is the best way…had I had wifi I would have tried to dl them from another source….but I was very out of the loop as to where the information would be made available aside from at the courthouse.

….maybe I missed an anouncement of some sort though?

I find myself agreeing with many of Cripplers statements and observations. The event is different things to different folks and expecting that everyone’s #1 priority at a geocaching event should be socializing is unrealistic. Some people are just not that interpersonally skilled. I agree there was plenty of time for socializing before, during (on trail) and after the event.

I would also agree that as a safety precaution (after all there are those who will attempt all 50), that the difficulty or travel times be reduced. I know of at least one geocacher who was pulled over by the authorities. I would have loved a bit more spare time during the day to grab some water and lunch but to get all 50 as per my personal goal, time was against me.

I could suggest to Craig that rather than dividing the prizes up to bigger levels, how about 10 – 100 dollar prizes instead?

I’d be cool with that…..anything to better my odds.

I too would like to see the elimination of $$$ prizes and maybe an increase in the amount of prizes such as gift cards from merchants.

Last year at Chocolate fest my team won first place and a boatload of gift cards and such for local merchants. I used exactly zilch from those prizes. None of my team members nor I live near there and had little use for those items. That said I do believe that the other team members may have used one of the items and left the rest in local caches for others to have….I think tangible prizes are much better than gift cards when you are away from home with limited time. A large event like this draws people from further away and the usefulness of gift cards would be minimal at best. The event wraps up late in the day and stores are closing at that time and lots of folks would not be around the next day. $100 rolls up nicely in one’s pocket.

I didn’t realize that there was a competition (I’m being sarcastic) to be the first to find all of the caches.

The only competition I’m aware of was with myself and my own ability to get em all found. On the side I talked smack with a couple of teams but we were just messing around…

…West Bend is definitely a numbers destination. My wife even commented on just how many were “on the map” around there. So many we just walked right by as we did the event caches and the night caches.

Got that right. during the event we walked past so many caches it was unreal. I think I have about 250 or so of the local caches done….WB is like Appleton as a good caching destination but unlike Appleton there are a whole lot less puzzles to ignore.

For those who found a few of the outlying hides, it’s no secret that a great many of the hides were highly bushwacky. I’d work really hard to make the caches a bit more accessible. If the chamber wants folks to spend more time spending money in town then a few less caches or shorter walks are in order so that we have time to stop and spend some $. My team spent the entire day in the car and on trail….not spending $ in town. Sure we did spend $ before and after but had we had more time we would have also gotten lunch at some point or water……or bug spray….or a first aid kit.

I got the 50 non water caches and yes that was what I expected…but it wasn’t easy by any stretch of the imagination and most of the day I didn’t think it would be possible.

Thank you and great job to all those who donated most of their weekend so that we could frolic in the bushes.
