I almost listed my Vista for sale yesterday…it is so not worth what I paid for it anymore…. 😥
Wow GPS units go cheap after a lil bit….
I did my first couple locationless Wherigos yesterday….I’d love to maintain yours but I’m a bit too far north. I might rattle your cage for tips though as I’d like to get at least one set up out this way.
Please also keep in mind that if there are no pressing issues that requires a committees attention then none is given. Also most business which would fall under the scope of one of these committees has been hashed out on the boards publicly negating the need for special committee involvement.
In other words someone posts a website idea in the suggestion box and it is normally discussed there and usually handled by Jeremy and the board without debate or discussion in a private committee. For the most part unless there are substantial issues the committees would only serve to slow down the process.
Now if there is a special project which is raised, that should go on to a committee for development.

One of my new favorite caches will be “Lost By Seven” which is a long overdue tribute cache to a certain fellow puzzle maker and inspirational soul. Now, I just have to figure out where to put that sucker….
I’m honored but that is not necessary as most everyone already knows my head is swelled enough as it is. 😈
The Rock Elm Disturbance GC16KZC .
Seriously, how many caches have a meteor impact to feature?I found that I can just use Mapsource and then just click on each waypoints webpage link (that I want to find) then if I want to load it with text I can do it from each webpage. It works OK and also lets me choose what I want to find as I normally read notes and finders logs before going out any way. I never go after more than 60 at once and normally no more than 30.
The main reason I picked this one up is for a trip I’m planning across country for which I plan to have LOTS of caches prepared but which I may only end up doing a fraction of. I have wanted to go paperless for some time.
As for GSAK, it looks too much like a database and I have tried to use it but couldn’t get it to work the way I wanted….I will eventually try to find someone to teach me how to use it though as I keep hearing how great it is….normally I’m very good at computer stuff….it could just be that I’m not willing to give it a real chance.
That WIKI page was great as it showed me lots of things that I was wondering about.
Thanks guys. I will go check out the WIKI and see what I can learn…I see I will need to learn how to use GSAK…I was hoping not to have to learn how to use that program.

I noticed Waushara county was not on the list of having an EC… Anyone know who is working on getting the Redgranite quarry up as an active EC?
I caught a brief headline in the Waushara Argus Dec 31 issue (local weekly newspaper) that it’s been approved as an Earthcache site.Just wonderin’ cuz I had thought of this site a while back. I’m contemplating placing an EC (of course I may need some guidance from the expert EC owners) This area is very familiar to me… Mom lives across from Silver Lake outside of Wautoma… and have spent many summers in Mt Morris for I guess about 50 years. Gosh, has it been that long!!!
LOL that would be Greyhounder and I …. 😈 I see I made the news again.
Everything is done except for getting the coords for the parking lot….as soon as I have that it will be submitted….
Here is a nice video of the quarry:

Of course I will have to find someplace that a EarthCache could go to tie it in to the theme (maybe place an EC and the cache near each other).
That is exactly what I did with my own EC challenge. GC1A1Q8 It’s right next to a spring EC belonging to Auntienae.
The two in Vilas county have just been approved by the forest folks and have been submitted. 😛
EDIT: Well the good news is they were both submitted, the bad news is that Auntienae and I had the exact same spot picked out for one of the listings. She has added additional information on parking coords and offered other help on the one listing and will get thanks on the cache page for that. I would like to publicly thank her for offering additional information on the site once she found out I had just submitted it. I feel horrible about the disappointment my listing must have caused 😕 I’m hoping hers will still be able to go though as I think she may have had a different approach to the EC listing.
Who would think we’d both be working on the same spot several hundred miles from our homes. 🙄

Perhaps in the future, the BOD could appoint a sub-committee of members with expertise on the issue, that could pool their knowledge. Cachers profiles sometimes list their chosen field, or word-of-mouth also works in picking an odd number of members to preview an issue before presenting it for a vote.
This frees up the BOD to handle current issues and not get bogged down in after-the-fact banter.
And the sub-committee members aren’t obligated to a term in office.
Most of the Associations that I belong to ask people to volunteer on these sub-committees, which is overseen by 1 Board member.Just food for thought, since I wasn’t involved in logo voting or design.
There are currently a few subcommittees though I don’t think they are very actively consulted.

I have 2 new EC’s in the cue this week that hopefully get published in time for the Waukesha Winter JanBoree. I am now working on the write up for 3 in Vilas and Oneida counties.
AuntieNaeI have 4 new ones done: 2 STILL waiting for permissions, 1 waiting for waypoint coords and 1 in need of a proper verification question….three different counties are represented……if they ever manage to get listed.
(two water related—no springs—one glacial feature and one rock feature)

I think my goals for 2009 are:
1. Hit # 2,000 with a 5 / 5 if possible.Hey Lostby, I know where you can grab a pair of 5/5’s for your milestone on water that never freezes…
I have a local cache in mind….I spoke to it’s owner last night. He has been watching my finds sit at 1960……several months ago he said he’d help me in my attempt at his underwater cache for my 2,000th. I’m fairly sure this area, being close to a dam, does not freeze but to be honest I’m not positive. I will have to drive out and see for myself….39 more finds, an unfrozen access point and a drysuit and I’m on it. Otherwise I will have to “settle” for getting #2,000 at a local EC. But who knows, I might get hit by a truck tomorrow and never make it to my goal. 😕

Placing my first caches
West Bend Cache Ba$h
Meeting PharmTeam (namesake geoparents? 😆 ) and many other caching teamsYou forgot one:
Kicking A$$ at Chocolate Fest 😈Last year was great. I visited some amazing places with my kids and met some fine folks along the way….what would I do without Geocaching?
Goals for the new year?
Well I have been sitting at 1,960 finds for the past 6 weeks. I guess I’m in a slump (one of a few I’ve experienced this past year). Originally I was sure I’d hit 2,000 before the waters froze and now I’m thinking it just may take me until spring to grab those last 40. But who knows I have been known to hit 40 in a day from time to time…but alas my heart just isn’t in it lately.
I think my goals for 2009 are:
1. Hit # 2,000 with a 5 / 5 if possible.
2. Cache in 2 or 3 new states.
3. Visit 10 new EarthCaches.
4. Cache along at least 2 bike (power) trails hopefully camping along the way.
4. Finish the year with 2,300 finds.I do love the numbers; I mostly cache alone so the more numbers I can rack up the more time I have likely spent with my own thoughts….for good or bad. My multiple state, EC, and bike trail goals are ones I will likely share with my family; those will be the most rewarding and memorable finds, the ones I began caching for in the first place.
But first and foremost my goal is to be healthy enough for another year so I can get out and enjoy nature, hunt down some plastic and perhaps get in 500 or so miles on my bike.
