Now, make it a truly virtual cache like the ones that were published in the olden days when you didn’t even have to get out of your car to log the find, and it would be a different story…including about 1,000 logs from cachers in Germany doing “online finds” 🙄

So I shouldn’t mention that my last find was in a certain snowy place thousands of miles away from my home?
(So much for totting the purist logging line)

OK. Great, thanks for the help. Pike Powder Hike (GC3B1) dates to 3/2/2001.

We just completed the last two (Wisconsin) DeLorme (Challenge) pages (81 and 81 A) up in Door County. 😆

Interestingly enough we came across what perhaps could be (maybe) the second Oldest cache in Wisconsin up in Door County.

It’s called Door County Cache (GC4C4) which dates to 3/17/2001.
We found GC4C4 which is kinda neat as it goes back to March of 2001 only 15 days younger than GC3B1.

    Thanks.

Interesting…. Door County Cache (GC4C4) was first found April 4th 2001 and the Pike Powder Hike (GC3B1) was first found March 4th 2001…..seems almost like a toss-up…

Good observation and question. I have seen the same thing on occasion at one of my ECs. A few people log the cache 50 feet away and don’t do the EC….It comes down to different strokes fer different folks…I know some people who would drive 100 miles just to do that falls EC… I’ll get there eventually as well…gas prices have made me a homebody these past three months…

I’ve seen the “WSQ” on several cemetary caches. I’m making plans to place my first cache in a nearby cemetary next Spring…can I just use the WSQ thing when I post my cache, or is their some official organization I need to register for first? I’m more than willing if I have to, but I’m just wanting confirmation so that I do things properly.

Just go ahead and create it. The WSQ is just to let folks know its a cemetery hide…there’s no oversight committee…and if you post the GC here Marc 5 digits will also see this post so he will no doubt add your cache to his bookmarks of cemetery hides….

I really enjoy visiting caches in cemeteries. I feel that they are part museum and part art gallery. The history inscribed and ornate (or simple) monuments always leave an impression on me. The older the better, as I like to look back and wonder about the lives of those who passed so young or how they managed to live so long.

The items placed on sites really make me pause and add a feeling of familiarity with those who have passed. Seeing the love left behind in the form of an inscription or memento often makes me feel warm…or sad. We are only here for a while and then we leave. Very often all that is left of us after a few generations is a marker in some field where if we are lucky some one will stop and visit; often this visitor is a stranger just passing through. I have been to a few hilltop cemeteries where the peace and tranquility is so thick in the air that I could not help but feel one with all of time and nature.

Photos? So long as they are respectful I see no problems. Just treat the area with respect, keep the hunts short while there are visitors there (or come back later) and if placing a cache there make it a fairly simple find.

Publications seem to be taking longer these days…where I had normally gotten my ECs published in 2-3 days I have been hearing people waiting well over a week lately…

In our Route 66 adventure, we found several ghost towns. A curious thing to note is that when all of the structures are gone, the town cemetery may still be intact. Real treasures can be found if you can locate the town dump. Be careful though, abandoned does not mean public domain.

Color me jealous…I so wish I had been able to see those sights….if you have any more pics I’d love to see em.

Old Hwy 16 GC1FV60 This is a really cool cache located along a short section of the now abandoned hwy 16 in Oconomowoc….It’s really cool to walk along what used to be the main road into town…after many many years nature is slowly taking it back. It’s worth a visit should you be in the area….it has a nice tree canopy and crosses a river…
